I've had it all my life. Getting 3-4 hours per week, almost every day...then at about the 10th or 11th day, I rest the whole day to make up for it.
I'm lucky though, I don't get sick often.

I go through regular phases of it. Try sleeping somewhere else, the couch or something. I find this breaks the pattern of irregular hours.

Insomnia used to affect me a lot more back then than it does now. Thank God! For a while, getting to bed before 2AM happened about once every 3 months or so and falling asleep before midnight was unheard of.

Now I don't have to try as hard to go to sleep.

I tried taking Ambien, but it made me hallucinate bad!

Some of you might actually think that's a good thing, though (not mentioning names).  Smile

I mean freaky hallucination with melting walls, serpents, jungles, and liquid mirrors. It was scary as hell (afterward).

Don't forget about the huge cockroaches with the long antennae lunging at you in the middle of the night while watching TV.  Wow!

I used to have it all the time while I was in the 4th and 5th grade. It made me cry all the time. Now it only happens when big things like the day before school starts, ect.

I love getting it. I don't like sleeping. Has happened a few times in college already. I've gone to visit friends in Orlando and Jacksonville at 4am. I also love driving real late at night/morning.

If I didn't have class during the day, I'd probably become nocturnal.
Sometimes I go about in pity for myself and all the while a great wind carries me across the sky.

Used to have it a lot as a little kid. I'd wander the halls of my house regularly at 2AM because I was never able to get to sleep..Sometimes 3AM. I rarely slept before that. Nowadays, I'm okay. I sleep normally at midnight, which is normal for me as I usually am studying until then. Then I wake up at 6 every night. I function great on 5 hours of sleep. The later I sleep, the earlier I wake up now..maybe has to do with my irregular sleep pattern as a child???

I've also suffered from insomnia in the past.

There are some things you can do:
1. Wear your socks to bed. Warn extremities help you fall & stay asleep.
2. Only go to bed to sleep. Don't watch TV or work in bed. Psychologically this is important.
3. Do not nap during the day, no matter how tired you are.
4. Try relaxation tapes.
5. Do not exercise right before bed.
6. Sounds corny, but try deep breathing to relax yourself.
7. Do NOT watch the clock when you can't sleep, just let time pass slowly.
8. No coffee, soda after 9pm.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

I get insomnia twice a year. A week each time. I don't know why. I used to take pills or drink to get through it, but now, I just let it go. My next bout will be in March.
Lately, I find when I want to fall asleep at midnight instead of 2AM, I light a candle and meditate. It makes the time pass and relaxes me. I'm out within 15 minutes.
