Pickup Fans, What's Your Favorite? (no Suv Please)

Wed Dec 11, 2002 10:30 pm

But I guess SUT's are acceptable.  Laugh out loud

I currently have a 2001 Dodge Dokota Quad Cab, and I love it. It fits my lifestyle beautifully.

But, in the world of dreams, if I were to get into some serious money, I'd have to get a Dodge Ram 3500HD Dually with the Cummins High Output diesel. (Ohh, I need a moment.....)  Laugh out loud I'd fall into that category of buying a vehicle that I would never use to it's potential, BUT I DON'T CARE!!! LOL. Anyway, I probably would get a gooseneck flatbed trailer and fifth wheel trailer for traveling.

Now then, what's your choice? Remember, it can be what you own, or what you'd like to own. Even those new decked out Ford F-650/750 beasts.

Let the Ford vs Dodge vs Chevy competition begin!!  Big thumbs up

Dodge Ram

Or the Ford F350

Well this is my fav.

http://home.planet.nl/~jeroen.onck/Atypen/atypes13.htm

It looked for it when I was a student but couldn't find one. So I bought a standard one. I know someone who had a BMW M1 but bought one when he moved to Paris & feld ten years younger (OK, he replaced the original seats ..)

Driving one of the above ones would my environment think I'm a criminal, disco owner or house builder & have to compensate something.

But hey, I live in narrow minded Western Europe ..

I think all of the trucks on the road right now are pretty good, but I'm partial to the Dodge Ram. It's big, strong, spacious and good looking like no other truck out there. They're a little pricey, but that's how it is when a vehicle is in high demand.

Those Dakota Quad Cabs are fine trucks. They're really fast with that 4.7L V8 and they've got a very roomy and attractive interior with sporty styling cues.

GM has alright trucks, but those new Vortecs have cold start knock and piston slap, which GM has finally got around to recalling.

Ford has that new 6.0L PowerStroke Diesel and TorqShift transmission which looks promising.

Well if I ‘needed’ a truck, I’d get a Ford F350 crew cab Diesel 4X4 with duallies

And for a small truck, I’d get a mid 1990s Dodge Dakota cab with Magnum V8, 4X4 of course.
Dodge makes the ONLY V8 powered small pick-up truck.  Smokin cool

I am not too crazy about the post ’97 rounded look.

I really think that dodge is screwing up by not offering the Dakota with some sort of diesel.

Personally though I grew up with my dad's 79 F 350 4WD Super Cab, Longbed, XLT Camper Special.

LOL. Good one! ^5. I don't know why, but I've always been partial to the duallies. Even when I was a kid, I'd see one go by and go - "wow..."

As far as the manhood thing goes? Well, lets put it this way. If I was driving a Ford, the truck wouldn'dt be the only thing with a power stroke! LOL.

HA! HA! HA!

Ha! Ha!..

Heh, heh....

uh, wait a second...

Lapper,

Being in the UK doesn't necessarily mean that you're destined to live without an F-series  Big grin This guy's done it...plenty of good info here.

http://www.effingpot.com/import/

Failing that, you can buy domesticised Ford Ranger these days. Not quite the same but it's as close as you're going to get with r/h drive.

Tpowaleny,

You want to here the most illogical thing ever in regards to pickips? I would never drive a Chevy, but a GMC is a cool truck. I know! It's the same damn thing!

I must need therapy or something.
lol.

"I really think that dodge is screwing up by not offering the Dakota with some sort of diesel."

Screwing up? Yeah right! The reason no diesel is offered in Dakotas is the same reason no diesel is offered in a 1/2-ton truck, what kind of weight can a 1/2-ton handle?

It's just not worth it. A diesel is a $5,000 option on a full-size truck and there's no point in putting it in a Dakota which can only handle 7,000 lbs.

The V8 is PLENTY for the Dakota.

Speaking of diesels and Dakotas, not too long ago, the new land speed record was set by some guy who put a Cummins Turbo Diesel in a Dakota and ran it on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. His top speed was around 220 MPH.

'92 Chevy S10 utility trucks (not the cheapos). I have one that used to be on a construction site which has 4L and 4H capabilities and a heavy duty hydro stickshift, and 4.3L six cylinder, which provides plenty of power for a truck that lightweight. Very close second, Dodge Ram 3500 with Cummins Diesel.

My least favorite but can't find a pic, that Chevy Xtreme thing. Why the rice boys in the world???  Pissed

Also, one question, what does 1500/F150, 2500/F250, and 3500/F350 signify  Confused. Thanx

Cheers

"Also, one question, what does 1500/F150, 2500/F250, and 3500/F350 signify?"

A while ago, 1500, 2500 and 3500 were the model designations each vehicle (1/2-ton, 3/4-ton, 1-ton) was capable of carrying safely. Before that, 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton and 1-ton were the payloads each vehicle could carry, but as truck became stronger and a 1/2-ton can now carry 2,000 lbs., a 3/4-ton can carry 4,000 lbs. and a 1-ton can carry 5,500 lbs., the meanings of those numbers really don't apply anymore, but they're still used to differentiate between models.

F150, F250 and F350 are just names Ford uses to distinguish between their 1/2, 3/4 and 1-ton models. Dodge and GM just use 1500, 2500 and 3500.
