Actually, aviatsiya (in my opinion) is right. Why should we help the poor on Thanksgiving and donate and then pray for them on Christmas, when we don't care on the other 363 days? I mean, yes, we do treat them with more respect on these 2 holidays, but why not treat them better everyday, that way they don't have to live without food and clean water for the rest of the year, for all the change they might get in a week/month , they can go and afford to buy a better piece of clothing from somewhere such as Good Will or some other place and keep warm through the winter and harsher weather.
Yes, we do treat the homeless better on thanksgiving and christmas, but praying is hoping for them, which is nothing wrong, but something else should go along with it, for instance, our family gives all of our unneccessary clothing to Good Will stores or the Salvation Army to help those who need it instead of just throwing it away.
So the next time you see a homeless man, be sure to give him some change, so that way they can put it to use instead of having people pray, but not help them out.
With everything you have, you can pray all you want, but they won't be warmer in the winter, so donate too!
