Can Anyone Identify This Song?

Sat Dec 28, 2002 12:24 am

Last night, I dug out and listened to an old cassette tape that someone who has long since gone their separate way from me made me some 15 or 20 years ago. I haven't even played it for at least a decade.

On it was one particular song that I really liked. It's great music and the lyrics are some of the most spritually uplifting I've heard in quite awhile. I totally forgot about it. Like I said, I haven't played it for the last 10 years. I listened to it several times. I'd like to know who it is so I can get the CD. Unfortunately, the person who gave me this tape didn't write the songs on the enclosed title card.

Anyway, since I got the tape sometime the early or mid 1980's, the song is at least that old.

I can't even really pigeonhole the style. It's definitely electronic though. Not like trance or New Wave or anything like that. The only way I can describe it is as a cross between New Age and Jazz, albeit still "experimental". The song starts out fairly slow, but builds up to a crescendo. The singer is either a baritone woman or a high pitched male. I cannot say for certain.

But here are the lyrics to that song:

You ask me where to begin
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me where did I fall
I’ll say I can’t tell you when
But if my spirit is lost
How will I find what is near
Don’t question I’m not alone
Somehow I’ll find my way home

My sun shall rise in the east
So shall my heart be at peace
And if you’re asking me when
I’ll say it starts at the end
You know your will to be free
Is matched with love secretly
And talk won’t alter your prayer
Somehow you find you are there

Your friend is close by your side
And speaks in far ancient tongue
A seasons wish will come true
All seasons begin with you
One world we all come from
One world me melt into one
Just hold my hand and we’re there
Somehow we’re going somewhere

(instrumental break)

You ask me where to begin
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me where did I fall
I’ll say I can’t tell you when
But if my spirit is strong
I know it can’t be long
No question I’m not alone
Somehow I’ll find my way home
(repeat last line 3 x)

I'm pretty sure that is the right CD.

And hey, stop stealing my Thunder by doing a "signed by" post before I could get a chance to use that classic setup!  Big grin
