Ever Wrecked A Car?

Sun Dec 29, 2002 4:08 am

Last night i slid off he road on some ice in my 95 BMW M5 and smashed into a tree. Sucked bad, but it fortunantly only damaged my passenger door and mu freind wasn't hurt. Apparently, rear wheel drive cars with Pirelli P6000's don't do so well on ice!

Have you ever wrecked a car?

Rear wheel drive + ice = hazardous

I've never been in a car wreck myself...getting my learners permit in a couple weeks.

I did prevent my friend from getting into a close accident though. There was a big snowstorm a few nights ago and he was driving and his 199x Ford Escort wagon went into a skid. He obviously lost steering since his car doesn't have ABS. The car began skidding towards the right side right towards a tree. I yelled for him to let go of the brake and he did and regained steering. Not a big deal, I know, but some poeple don't realize how imperative it is to know what kind of braking system you're working with.

Sorry bout the accident...I would never wish for anyone's M5 to get beat up! Glad you and your friend are ok, though.

Hmm, in 1995, I drove my Ford Telstar into a river !

Took a while to get repaired, rewiring etc etc...

When losing situational awareness, pray Cumulus Granitus isn't nearby !

I was in a head-on collision when I was 18 (driving my dad's car) and wrote it off. The other guy was also 18 and lived down the street. We never got along. The crash did not help.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

I let my car get a little too close to the passenger side of a car about a year ago... caused about $2000 damage to my car, and probably less to the other persons, but since his car was an old Ford Escord (I think an '89), the insurance company just totaled it... so now I'm stuck with a huge insurance bill.

Before I had my license I ran my mother's Mercedes into the wall of our garage. Amazingly I only did $35 damage to the car, but a few hundred to the wall. Mom didn't find that anywhere near as humorous as it sounds now.

I have been in two wrecks, about 2 months apart. The first one, I was driving home, and the car in front of me was stopped to make a left hand turn (only she neglected to use her turn signal), and as I slammed on my brakes to keep from hitting her, I skidded on the freshly rained on road and ended up rear ending her car. The front end of my car was f'd up really bad, but since it was an older car, those damaged panels could just be unbolted and then replaced. My stepfather and I put the car back together over a month's time, and got it back on the road. Then, about 2 weeks later, I was on my way to school, and was waiting to turn onto another street (it was a yield), and was waiting for the oncoming traffic, and the guy behind me thought I was going, except I wasn't, and he rear-ended my car. Not too much damage on my car, just the rear bumper was bent in a little, his front end suffered a lot more damage than my car did. These 2 wrecks happened almost 9 years ago, and I've been lucky since then (knock on wood).

Back in 1992, I took my dad's '91 Lincoln Mark III (just fitted with new tires and $2500 into the engine to "supe it up" and impaled in up on a telephone pole at 70 MPH.

Doc took one straight look at me and told me I should have been dead yet walked away with some stitches.

Too bad. That car was a PHAT ride.

Wrecked my old Passat-75 into a lamp post on the 1st of April, changed to summertires because a new law claimed that you had to do that (so much for
follow the law), then the blizzard came and I ended into the ditch.

Alessandro: you can use wintertires in Sweden between October 1st and April 30th, and they have to be on during December 1st and March 31st if there is winterroads (http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/bil/story/0,2789,211954,00.html)

And so far i've never wrecked a car myself, and hope to avoid it for as long as possible  Big grin
