Brent Musburger

Wed Jan 08, 2003 5:35 am

Why do ABC and ESPN continue to whip us with this guy? His style is so condescending that I immediately mute the volume. I also don't understand why ABC pulled him from college football to do the Colts-Jets game. The ESPN team with Theismann and MacQuire would have been more logical and more acceptable. (I'm assuming you know ABC and ESPN are partners). But Brent just beats me down.

I think he's all-right but he tries to do too many sports. Kind of like NBC's bob costas (now that guy is annoying). Kirk Herbstriet and Lee Corso are my favorite NCAA commentators. Herbstriet is very objective and knows his stuff while Corso is also knowledgeable, at times misguided, but very funny IMO.

Sleekjet...

Your not alone...Me and my dad hate Musberger's guts also...about 2 minutes after the Jets-Colts kickoff we muted the TV and tuned into the radio broadcast of the game by Marv Albert...much better...

I hate multi-sport broadcasters including Marv Albert but Al Michaels is great. The rest are just so fake. Musberger was talking during one of his NBA games (yes he does those too for ABC) and was telling about all his research he does on the NBA players and stuff. There's no way that guy can do all that stuff as good as he does college football.

Yeah airworthy, wasn't that the christmas day Nets-Celtics game? Musburger was ambiguous doing NBA commentary; he just seemed so out of place. I felt sorry for Sean Elliot having to sit there with him.

Horrible, just horrible. He's the only negative in the Ohio State National Championship season, he must have done 12 of their games this year. Thank goodness I was able to pick up Paul Keuhl and the OSU radio network in my basement, otherwise I may set myself on fire due to his commentary. I remember a game he did many years ago. He described going to an M.C. Hammer concert in Spain and getting a taste of home. The combination of Musburger, M.C. Hammer, and the thought of that old fool pretending to be enjoying that crap music was just outstanding. It was such a gift of ABC to put Keith Jackson on the Fiesta Bowl and sparing us another night of that jagoff trying to paint verbal pictures with b.s.

Sleekjet, I couldn't agree with you more; listening to Musburger spew his melodramatic drivel is a huge arse-whipping! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Remember years ago when Musberger was the studio host for the CBS show "NFL Today"? Jimmy the (racist) Greek, Irv Cross, and some bimbo were also on the show. Musberger was better in that role. But I think he was shitcanned by CBS when he made a big money increase demand, and wound up in college football. He is awful as a play by play caller, as is Costas. I think some of the lesser known announcers, such as Dick Stockton, and Verne Lundquist, do a much better job, at sports as varied as basketball, auto racing, and figure skating.
Maggs swings, it's a drive deep to left! The Tigers are going to the World Series!!!

Yeah, Lundquist is a great announcer during March Madness, why not get him to do NBA games.
