Help Plan London Day Trip -Aztek + 007 Exhibitions

Wed Jan 22, 2003 2:06 am

Hello everybody,

in March, I´ll be doing a day trip to London on a Saturday in order to visit the Aztec exhibition at the Royal Academy and, if possible, the James Bond exhibition at the Science Museum.

I´d appreciate your help for planning this trip, especially locals and people who have visited either or both exhibitions are very welcome.

I´m arriving at STN at 0640. The Royal Academy opens at 1000. How should I go there? I want to spend not more money than necessary, but I do want to be there by 1000, even if it´s more expensive than arriving later. Or is it advisable to be there earlier than 1000 in order to queue?

How much time should I calculate for the Azteks? Is it even possible to also do 007 afterwards or is that too ambitious? How´d I get from the Royal Academy to the Science Museum?

Would I have to expect long queues for 007? How much time would I need to spend there?

My return flight leaves STN at 2040.

When would I have to leave the Science Museum in order to get to STN a) cheap or b) fast?

If I decide to skip Bond, when would I have to leave the Royal Academy in order to get to STN a) cheap or b) fast?

Thanks a lot in advance - if you can answer any of these questions you´re better than the British tourism office here in Germany whose response was complete silence  Wink/being sarcastic

I'd love to give you advice, because I work for a London-based employer and visit there every two weeks or so, but I'm afraid I don't use the budget way of travelling, also I come in via Heathrow or city airport. On the few occasions I went there out of my own free will, I found the subway the best way of going around. There's a tourist ticket you can get at the airport (I suppose that's similar in Stanstead), but I guess there's no subway out, but instead the express railway.
As the Science Museum is situated in Kensington, just take a little walk around, that's cheap and it's (arguably, of course) one of the loveliest parts of London!!
Is that the Royal Academy of Arts? Well then you are close to St. James, you just have to take a walk through St. James to Buckingham Palace or maybe down to Whitehall. I do this whenever time allows me...many tourists, but so lovely!
Your other questions..sorry, Londoners come in now please...oh and btw, be prepared: Wherever you live in Germany, as compared to London it's cheap...that place is so outrageously expensive, it'll make your eyes water!!

Have a nice trip

Regards

Andreas
