Anyone Brew Their Own Beer At Home?

Wed Feb 05, 2003 7:00 am

Can I get some opinions from those of you who have/are brewing your own beer at home?

Besides the obvious cost savings, (especially in Canada, eh) what are the benefits and downsides to the whole process. Is the end result worth it?

I have brewed and bottled my own in the distant past at one of those brew-your-own establishments and was very satisfied with the taste and quality.

Thanks in advance.

Home brew in the UK is very active
If you can get hold of a paperback called
Brewing beers like those you buy by Dave Lines
it gives recipes of not only a lot of regional UK beers but some foreigh ones as well
The instructions are dead easy , and so good, that i brewed his version of
Gibbs and Mew (a dorset Brewery) Bishops Tipple.
A freind at our railway club used to work at the brewery and i got him to blind taste it. He called it in one, so the taste and flavour is there. Recommend it to anyone.
If you cant get it i can email scans of pages for you.

As a part of a school science project, we had to produce a good quantity of beer & cider. I think the beer I produced, along with a class mate, ended around 15-20% and the cider above 30. Of course, the whole thing was undrinkable, but hey, the effect was there! Big grin

I have brewed several batched of beer. I like to call mine Instant Confidence. I have yet to come up w/ a flavor that I am satisfied w/ but I liked all that I brewed.

My wifes cousin in big into home brew and brews 10 gal. batched and kegs them. He is way more advanced than I am.

Andy, I've done it, but probably wont again anytime soon.

The biggest drawback for me is that I like a variety of beer, and hence I dont want to be stuck with a huge batch of one type, even if it turns out great.

Cost is not an issue for me.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.
