Lions Hire Mariucci

Fri Feb 07, 2003 12:23 am

The Detroit Lions, who last won an NFL championship in 1957 (the Bobby Lane era), made their boldest move ever in hiring Steve Mariucci, late of the 49ers. It is a good match, since "Mooch" is from nothern Michigan originally (where he grew up with best friend and follow coaching icon Tom Izzo of Michigan State).

Mariucci is getting $25m over five years. GM Matt Millen better stay out of his way. But there is certainly no NFL fan base more deserving of success than the Lion's faithful. Only one playoff victory since that '57 title!

Poor Mooch. My man should have sat out the year. Did some T.V. still cash 49er checks, and see what opened up next year. I mean the Lions? Why not just go coach the Bungles?

Thank goodness

At least Joey now might have some tools to raise this team from the ashes.

They're not handing trophies out today

Still not gonna matter...the Lions need some better players...maybe hiring Mariucci will give them a few more wins, but I dont see them in the playoffs still for quite some time unless they can get a quality team...which they of luck to them...
