Germany-U.S. Ties Hit Post-War Low

To all those who are afraid Germany had become anti-American over the crisis in Iraq, I'd like to warmly recommend the reading of this article:

"Germany-U.S. ties hit post-war low"

I find it to be especially fair, balanced and a good piece of neutral journalism. The author, Mr. Andy Eckardt, succeeds to remain uncommited to all sorts of onesidedness throughout the entire article, which makes it a correct in-depth analysis of the current situation in Germany.

The last paragraph of the article reads: "It is a lack of support of war, not a lack of support for Americans," Judith [a young German] said. "The whole discussion here in Germany is not about being against America, it is about being against war." This is exactly my sentiment and also the one of many, many other Germans; as you can gather from Udo's wonderful thread: "Despite All Politics: I Still Like America!"

I think many Germans and French people are being stupid by turning their back on a big problem, but that doesn't mean I don't still "like" their countries. I think the EU is getting a huge ego, and in the future I anticipate that the EU will define itself by opposing whatever the US wants. This is not productive but the EU bureaucrats are no doubt extremely power hungry and are tired of playing second string for the US when it comes to international affairs.

Your dead right the EU is getting a huge ego as well as the USA the sooner the UK tackes charge a things the better. But big Geroge kicks ass so we cant really be dishen the USA. Everyone just has to keep it real!

If a war on Iraq is everything the US is about, then be it so. Get real. The EU isn't even "standing united" about the Iraq thing, you know? Tony Blair's the Prime Minister of an EU member country.
