Simple Kazaa Question

Thu Feb 13, 2003 5:52 pm

Wow! I like Kazaa. My only question is: How can I make sure the song I am downloading is the one I want? I have problems with the title or artist being one thing and the song/singer being something completely different. Thank you.

Get rid of Kazaa, it loads your computer with spyware that you can't uninstall. It's like a virus.

First, download Ad Aware by Lavasoft. Then do a google search for Kazaa Lite. Same damn thing, but hacked by someone to remove the spyware.

And the problem with ALL the free (illegal mostly) filesharing networks is you don't know what you're getting until you download it. That's the price you pay for getting your music for free illegally. If don't want to get the wrong song sometimes, go and buy the CD. If you want it for free, you might have to put up with a few crappy downloads.

Seb 146, with KazaaLite you can preview the song while you download it. So download some 500Kb and then play it, if its the one you want resume downloading it, if u don't want it delete it! Its that easy!!

Morpheus, WinMX, Limeware etc. arent as good as KazaaLite. Yes Kazaa spyware works when Kazaa is off. The spyware is installed on your computer..and runs remotely.

Solution: get KazaaLite

LOT767

I installed a spyware-removing program sometime ago and the kazaa would not load after that. I then realized that Kazaa uses spyware but I am not sure of how exactly works or what exactly does to my PC.

So, what exactly this spyware does right now that I am connected to the internet? (kazza off). Any others who can tell what happens with kazaa's spyware will be appreciated.

One- yes, when you uninstall Kazaa, the spyware stays on doing it's thing. And it runs whenever your computer is turned on.

What does it do? It reports usage statistics (what websites you visit, what you buy, contact information, ect.) to the source, who then sells the info. The other thing it does is "lease" you computer time. When your PC is idle it runs apps in the background kind of like the SETI screensaver did, except they get PAID for leasing YOUR computer. That's the one that really pissed me off.

Okay...

How is downloading songs from kazaa or morpheus different from borrowing your mate's CD and ripping one or two songs just so you don't have to waste money on songs you don't like? It says right on the liner: Duplication of any kind is illegal!

Also, kazaa is not a free service. It is a free* service (notice the asterisk). I don't expect someone would set up a website of this caliber and not want to make any money off it! But go on and download music from wherever.

ANYWAY........

Thank you all for your help.

I suggest you go to http://www.cnet.com and find a spyware finder program.

I infact have 2 on my computer. Most people dont even realize spyware exists...with notorious programs such as Gator and Bonzi Buddy that basically are nothing but spyware.

Spyware differs...some report where you go on the internet. The extreme kinds of spyware register every keystroke you make on the computer. Thus they can record your passwords, credit card #s etc. and report them back to the spyware owner.

I HIGHLY recommend uninstalling kazaa and scanning your computer for spyware and getting KazaaLite.

Heres a couple free spyware/add blockers and detectors

A complete list

For some reason the clickable links wont work... grrr
