As far as I know, and I may be wrong on this one, is that you aren't going to find a free downloadable virus scanner that is worth anything. Go to www.sophos.com and you can download their most recent version for free as an evaluation. You do have to enter your email and some other info. But as for updating it you could download the full new version as an eval version if they let you. Otherwise you'd be SOL. If you are a college or university student it is likely that they have a virus scanner software available through their IT dept. Otherwise cough up the $30-$40 for Norton or McAfee.

Try this one. It will also help you get rid of any it finds.

hey CB...check out coair.com...you can download a copy of Norton Anti Virus software. Not sure if it is the full version though. Worth checking out though.

If you do not want to (ridiculously) try trial AntiVirus programs for 30 days, there are some online AV websites that will use their tools to scan your computer -- right from your internet browser for free:

- http://housecall.trendmicro.com (they registered www.antivirus.com too)

Trendmicro scans and lists the viruses you have, you decide to clean, (or if impossible to clean) delete it.

Panda Software asks you what you want to do with the viruses on startup (delete or leave viruses alone but displays the viruses)...then it scans.
