I Need Help! I'm Traveling Alone!

Tue Feb 18, 2003 11:02 am

Hey guys! Ok, I am planning to take a trip to Guatemala on March 7th.. But the thing is that is the first time that I'm going to be traveling alone, and I have to convince my dad. The ticket is really cheap on Delta, but I have a question for you guys, taking in account I'm 15 do I need to pay an extra charge or not? Another concern is that I am not an American citizen, could this cause any problem??
thanks!

Diego

PS: I'm asking my dad this week, so any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Actually I am a Guatemalan citizen, but I live in America as a resident. The reason for the trip is that my best friend lives there, and I haven't seen him in a year. So I want to visit.

As long as whoever your visiting knows your coming, has a place for you to stay, food to eat, etc., your dad should be fine with it. Just make sure that everything is in place, all loose ends tied, before you "present" this idea to your dad.

A trip to Guatemala would be a lot of fun.

Tbar220: Yeah it's going to be awesome... I'm just a little scared about traveling alone for the first time, taking in account that it's and international flight.

You should be alright maturity-wise. I travelled alone younger than your age. You should look at Delta's website to check their policies though.

Yeah, but the only info in their webpage is about kids 14 an younger, and I don't think I need special help during the flight. The problem though is going through customs because I've never done that alone ...  Confused

Diego,
Travelled alone never but was with my brother couple of years ago. Both of us were as young as you. Anyways just a piece of advice- follow the signs in the airport. If unsure just ask... You should be ok. Have fun!

Best Regards,
Herman

I made my first trip by myself when I was 13 and got trapped in Iqaluit Nunavut by myself for two days because of weather. It was awesome! If you let the hot F/A's know you are travelling alone they always pay more attention to you. Press the call button and they will run to come and help you while putting their chest in your face so they can turn off the button. It's nice Big thumbs up

Find a young hot Guatamalian chick to keep you company.
Also, bring lots of protection.  Big grin

Dash8King: I do that even when my family is with me, I always make sure I get a window seat far from my mom, so i can flirt with the F/A's lol  Smokin cool

Superfly: That is the other reason for the trip... I've been missing some action in my life now. hehehe Thanx 4 the advice!!  Acting devilish

I travelled last year (14) MSP-ORD-FRA-ZAG by myself. I was with my school class in D.C., and my father, bro, and sis were headed to ZAG a night before I came back due to the schedule. We didn't tell the airline I was under 14, I took all the flights easily, didn't check my passport arriving in FRA! But they checked it in ZAG, a little "stamp" and I was through. I also travelled by bus that day by myself, I can tell you, it felt ODD, but I made it OK.

I used to be real jumpy about traveling by myself, until I finished off the remainder of my growth spurt and took up Jet Li-type Taekwondo training (the serious stuff, not the wussy junk). Now, I'm really not worried, knowing I can defend myself (we actually practice different situations and do this thing called sparring where we fight with light pads on, for those of you who don't know). The reassuring fact that I'm a good shot (not that I carry a firearm) and know how to cause some serious damage with my bare hands makes me perfectly comfortable being alone, traveling or not.

So, as TBar220 said, just make sure you have all the arrangments made, and a BACKUP PLAN, and I think you'll be fine and your dad will feel a little more reassured letting you travel by yourself. Good luck, and happy flying.
