Trinity And Beyond

Sun Feb 23, 2003 5:15 pm

Anyone else watched this amazing documentary by Peter Kuran?

My friend brought the DVD over and I must say, it was absolutely stunning. The netural POV regarding the nukes as just a part of history is refreshing (I couldn't detect a political viewpoint).

The footage is breathtaking and awe-inspiring in all it's horrific beauty.

The musical score by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra is just incredible and really adds to the horror that is onscreen.

I went and ordered the DVD for myself this evening.

I have only seen that once.

The only thing about that show I would gripe about is that they used Shatner to narrate it.

Why Shatner? Will we ever be safe from Shatner?

I actually thought, for once, that Shatner's voice worked for the film.

SPOOK!!!!

Seriously though Omegous, Shatner to his credit did a decent job, but he wouldn't have been my first choice.

Nimoy would have been better, maybe Vincent Price. But they would have to dig him up first.

I agree, Shatner may not have been BEST for the film, but his voice worked quite well and I think he did a good job.

An excellent documentary, I've seen it a few times and will probably purchase it for my DVD collection.

Another great documentary is titled "Devil's Playground", it follows a group of Amish teenagers when they turn 16 and can go out into the world and do anything they like, and then decide if they want to join the church. I had no idea before seeing this that it was part of the Amish tradition.

It's a superb movie, I own the DVD and have seen it many times. Probably the best scene comes near the very end, when Chinese soldiers on horseback are on manoevers right after a nuclear test. Quite a juxtaposition of very old and very new tactics.

Excellent movie. Ordered several copies from Suncoast ($12.99) and gave them away to friends and relatives.

I own a copy of Trinity and Beyond along with two of the other films, Atomic Journeys and Nukes in Space. The good thing about all the movies is they stay fairly neutral regarding nuclear weapons and don't spend the entire time spouting out one side's view.

I liked it. Watched it the other night in fact. It talks about nuclear tests done in New Mexico, Colorado, Mississippi, Nevada, and Alaska. The last 40% or so is about the Nevada Test Site.

The one I still need is Nuclear 911.
