Audio Game - Song ID

Fri Feb 28, 2003 11:07 am

What we have here are 25 short clips from various songs. Some are very easy to guess, others may not be so easy. They are in no particular order, although I think it may get harder to guess some (but not all) of the songs toward the bottom half of the list. Some of the clips I had to edit a bit for colorful lyrics.

The clips are in the Windows Media Audio (.wma) format. They range in size from 11KB to 42KB. The length of the clips varies from 2 seconds to 14 seconds. Depending on the reliability of my web hosting provider, it should be relatively painless for even modem users like myself to download the clips. In case my hosting provider fails me, the same clips are also available here as a backup of sorts.

I will check back later tonight or tomorrow to see how everyone is doing. Here goes:

Would I be guessing right if I were to say there are all by Marcel Marceau? Reason: I don't get no sound on my WMP9.0

Did you do these .wma's yourself? If so, how did you get the file size down so low?

Aviatsiya, I use Winamp to convert the songs into .wav files. Then I use a shareware program called Goldwave to edit out the clips I wanted to use. Then with the short .wav files, I use a freeware program from Microsoft called Windows Media Encoder to change the .wav files into the .wma Windows Media Audio. With that program you get to choose the bitrate of the songs, and I chose a low one intended for users like me who still have to use dial-up. The quality is low, but good enough. You can also choose bitrates a lot higher for better quality sound. -mls515

Wow, there's still some easy ones left to guess. Any more takers?
