"Sea" Ya

Mon Mar 03, 2003 11:47 am

Well peeps, Im out. Ill try to check in now and then. I know a few people in here want to see me "Check Out" for real, but, it wont happen. Clovis, send me some Chicken Fried Crepes, get my address from KROC. Send me anything you want. Please dont send me a white flag though.  Big grin

The Nimitz will leave San Diego with its eight-ship battle group and 8,000 sailors and airmen Monday. It is expected to take at least a month to reach the Gulf, where it will join five other carrier battle groups operating in the area, although the Nimitz may replace one of them, the USS Abraham Lincoln.

"The fact that five carriers have been deployed to the region at the same time tells you what kind of campaign it's going to be," said Loren Thompson, a defense analyst with the Lexington Institute in Arlington, Virginia. "It's going to be an overwhelming air assault that reduces every facet of Iraqi military capability in a few days. This war is going to be over pretty quickly."

The Lincoln, the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Constellation are in the Persian Gulf. The USS Harry S. Truman and USS Theodore Roosevelt are in the eastern Mediterranean, within striking range of Iraq.

"Sea" Ya.

For you Maiznblu, and also for my cousin, a Naval doctor who is now stationed in Kuwait.

The Fight Song/Battle Cry of the U.S. Navy
First played during the 1906 Army/Navy Game (Navy 10, Army 0)

Anchors Aweigh

Stand Navy out to sea,
Fight our Battle Cry;
We'll never change our course,
So vicious foe steer shy-y-y-y.
Roll out the TNT, Anchors Aweigh.
Sail on to Victory
And sink their bones to Davy Jones,

Anchors Away, my boys,
Anchors Aweigh.
Farewell to foreign shores,
We sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay.
Through our last night on shore,
Drink to the foam,
Until we meet once more.
Here's wishing you a happy voyage home.

Blue of the Mighty Deep;
Gold of God's Sun
Let these colors be
till all of time be done, done, done,
On seven seas we learn
Navy's stern call:
Faith, Courage, Service true,
with Honor, Over Honor, Over All.

Below is the United States Naval Hymn. It is a very cherished, very poignant song in American history. It was played when President Franklin Deleno Roosevelt was laid to rest at Hyde Park, NY in 1945, and was played when the casket bearing the body of the Slain President John F. Kennedy was carried from the steps of the Capitol in 1963.

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Who's arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep:
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Christ, whose voice the waters heard,
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walkedst on the foaming deep,
And calm amid the storm didst sleep:
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Holy Spirit, who didst brood
Upon the waters dark and rude,
And bid their angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace:
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O Trinity of love and power,
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go:
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land to sea.

Does anyone else hear music in the background when pulling up this thread. Since I posted, Iget this annoying music that just kind of stays there.

Anyone else get it?

Well, it seems my link to the Naval Hymn didn't work before, so let me try it again. It's a moving, poignant hymn.

My deployment aboard the USS WASP (CVA-18) in 1956 was the highlight of my flying carreer. Flew the F2H-3 Banshee in VF-152, a Night and all WX Intrecept Squadron.

Nothing like it for experience.
