Very Cool Website, How Does It Work?

Sun Mar 09, 2003 12:17 pm

This is one of the most amazing websites I have ever seen. I have been playing with it for hours and I still have not been able to figure out how it is able to determine the symbol! Its incredible.

Does anyone know how this thing works???

I figured this out after about 10 minutes of staring at it. Notice that each time you hit the thing and it comes up with the symbol, the right side fades away. That's because when you "try again," different sets of symbols appear. The guy mathematically calculated the symbols to work out in any combonation for 99 sets. Must have taken him a long time.

If that sounds confusing, let me know I can further elaborate and clear up what I'm trying to say.

This might also help you understand.

When you open the page, just do the same formula for about 4 random numbers. They all come out to be the same symbol...go ahead, try. Now, after you click the glass thing, the right side will fade, and then hit try again, and do the same thing with another 4 random numbers (or more). Same symbol each time (different one per page).

Hope that clears it up a bit more

Wow. That was a complicated answer. But I understand it.  Smile I did the formula you are supposed to do 4 seperate times with different numbers, but did not click the "magic ball". The answers always ended up with the same symbol. I see (I think I do at least) that there are only a few possible numbers you could come up with as an answer, and all of those have the same symbol. And only those answers change the symbol after each try.

Complicated, and "mathy", but cool  Smile

Whenever you add a two digit number's digits together and then subtract that value from the original number, you will always end up with a power of 9 (9, 18, 27, etc.)

Exactly. I just tried to explain how it worked to my parents and they still couldnt really understand how it works.

10=1+0=1 10-1=9
11=1+1=2 11-2=9
12=1+2=3 13-3=9
" " " " " =9

Thanks for clearing it up fellas.

But I can still freak my friends out with it Smile

Well then I think you might be doing it wrong WN. The formula forces it give the correct answer.

Do the site with a number less than 10. It will always get it wrong.

If you did it with a one-digit number, the result would be zero, which means that for it to work, he should have made zero the same symbol as each multiple of 9. But the site did say to choose a two-digit number...

Must have taken him ages to get it working right. I can do it now, and I understand how it works. Pretty clever I think.
