Computer Help

Mon Mar 10, 2003 4:49 am

I have been bent on having my power supply replaced (again) in my computer, but now that I think about it, that may not be what is wrong.

When I turn on the power strip, the computer turns on. It stays on for about 2 seconds then turns off. The on/off button works. If I turn the power strip on and at the same time push the on/off button, the computer turns off. I can push the button again and it comes on for 2 seconds then shuts off. With the power strip on, the only thing that works is the monitor and speakers.

I had the power supply changed once. The machine stayed on for about 2 hours then powered off on it's own. I turned it back on and it stayed on for about an hour. Then 30 minutes. Then 10 minutes. Now the 2 second thing.

Anyone know what I might look at first? Thank you.

Open the case, and check whether the processor fan is spinning. If it isnt, then this may be your problem. It is a protection to stop the machine from overheating
