Will North Korea Generate As Much Flak?

Sun Mar 16, 2003 4:37 pm

When it becomes obvious that no negotiations and then negotiations with NK will not work and force becomes imminent, will the U.S. receive the same amount of flak being generated over Iraq?

Scratch that...Why is no one else taking the initiative to deal with NK? Many would argue that they are more of a threat to global peace that Saddam. So come on, step up and be a leader. Show your relevance in the big picture. Let the U.S., the U.K. and Spain get "egg in their face" (latest catch phrase) over Iraq while you go kick some ass in Korea.

DPRK fits into the same catagory of concern as the pre-1991 Iraqi army.

They have a military that can hurt.

That is why it is so important that the DPRK's biggest trading partner, China steps up to the plate and helps them see the world view of their actions.

So far China has refused to do this.

China is actually the most logical choice to talk some interest.

Currently they are the largest trading partner with the DPRK and they also talk to the US.

I agree that while we talk with China, there has been some palpable tension between the two nations for some time...

Your quote of: So far China has refused to do this. Is pretty important to the argument.

Let the U.N. take care of it. After all the DPRK has a cease fire agreement with the U.N. Wasn't it the U.N. that stepped in, in 1950?

So, let's just contact some of those blue helmets on the DMZ to take charge!!!!

The only problem is that there is only U.S. military on the DMZ. It seems that the U.N. is only good for words and when there is a need for action, it relys on the U.S.

Have Japan, Taiwan, or South Korea start a nuclear weapons program................and then see how quickly China would react.

Scratch that...Why is no one else taking the initiative to deal with NK?

All the others are avoiding it, and NK refuses to deal with anyone other than the US even though it has nothing to do with the US. China, Japan, South Korea etc are all saying that they are not getting involved.

That's pretty much the way it seems to be. I've read an article in a German magazine (Der Spiegel) recently, it was about a trip to North Korea. The first thing you'll hear in that country is how great the two Kims, father and son, were/are. The second thing you'll hear is how evil the US is. But strangely, the thing you'll hear from officials is that Kim Jong Il will only talk to President Bush - "from peer to peer". Insane It's not only weird, it also shows off Kim's image of himself.
Furthermore, I think dealing with North Korea would be a very good opportunity for liberating people. Since this is what GWB is always talking about, I think it would be good to try and use it. He could save people from starving, freezing, living in caves and being shot while trying to escape if he figured out a way of dealing with Kim. And he would get support from a larger part of his allies.

OK, I forgot how reluctant the US has always been to employ its military power. Yeah sure
