Wow! Shocking.

Shame on him. For shame.

But a pity.

Just heard it on the radio. He walked out during an emergency meeting of the commons!

He is former foreign secretary and was (until 1 hour ago) head of the House of Commons. Ironically, he is the guy who was so keen to invade Iraq in 1991!

Ahhh, alright. So he resigned because he was against the war in Iraq?

Could be another cabinet minister resigning very soon, or maybe not.

Claire Short, like Robin Cook, will almost certainly go now, they had both said they would if war went ahead without a 2nd UN resolution.
But Short was for the action in Kosovo in 1999, however she would not have been pleased by being called 'Bomber Short' ever since by the left, who regarded her as one of their own.

Did anyone see his speech to the House of Commons? I must say that I found it one of the better ones I have heard heard recently, he could not have outlined his case better.

"Shame on him. For shame"

Firstly, does anyone outside Eton actually say that? Secondly, any reason why it's a jolly shame, old boy?

Well done Robin. It was an amazing speech. So brilliant and incisive in fact that he got something never seen in the Commons - a standing ovation.

But like all the rest of us, Tony will regard him as just being wrong.

That was one hell of a powerful speech, i'd be red-faced if i was a pro-war minister sitting in the House of Commons.

If you think that he quit for his principles you are mistaken. He's quit to further his own political ambitions. With Blair on a sticky wicket Cook thinks he will be ideally placed to replace him. Notice how he was desperate to be first to go especially when Short had already announced that she would resign.

And another thing, how can you trust someone as weird looking as him?

I doubt if Cook went for political ambition, if Blair goes most likely Gordon Brown will be PM, and him and Cook have a feud going back to the 1970's

Pretty good speech, indeed.

I didn´t have a chance to listen to it live, but read it here:
