Republican Guard Looking To Surrender

Fri Mar 21, 2003 9:24 am

There are now reports of massive internal fractures in the Iraqi Regime. Senior Republican Gaurd Generals want to surrender and are in contact with pentagon officials. Could be propaganda but I feel it's factual. This is now being reported on US News channels.

If the Republican Guard surrender they will know the exact location of Suddam, since this is thier Presidential Security Force. The Special Republican Guard is responsible for, among other things, the security of the capital, Baghdad, as well as Saddam's family palaces and other vital facilities of the regime.

This is great news.

Capital Hill will be a better place without Tom DeLay, Trent Lott and three quarters of the Guard. We promise to apply all Geneva Convention agreements to them. They WILL get their candy bars!

Is there any mention of the leader of the Republican Guard throwing in the towel?

Classic reply Heavymetal!  Big thumbs up

I agree with you, by the way, although I think I MIGHT take Delay over any Iraqi General.

..................maybe I need to rethink that one.  Laugh out loud

Those Republican Guards are smart; they want to be as far away from Hussien's regime as possible when it implodes on itself. Not to mention they'd like a spot in the new Iraq. I wonder what all the European nay-sayers are thinking now?

The republican guard are not the ones to have access to Saddam. The elite republican guard is that group of about 20,000 of Saddam's most loyal fighters from his hometown of tikrit.

Well the U.S. penatrated the Iraqi communications net some time ago, and have been calling up Iraqi commanders on their cell phones and even through their military communications systems (just showing off, I suppose), trying to convince them to give up and explaining how to do it.

Time will tell how successful that effort has been.

Yes and Mr. Rumsfeld has nothing better to do than to repeat this over and over again on TV. I mean I may be mistaken and I'm certainly no expert on covert operations but to tell everybody that you are on such an operation seems somewhat stupid to me and pretty dangerous to those Iraqi commanders who are considered to be "un-stable" by Saddam.

It looks like the propaganda worked with at least some of the Iraqi troops.

Recall the last Gulf War and the news manipulation that took place then.
Could easily be disinfo.
Makes every Rep. Guard commander tuning into CNN wonder if the others are giving up.
But then, they will have thought of this already.

Well, SOMEBODY is lying.

We've seen video of the 7th Cavalry blasting along at full speed northwards from Kuwait for some 9 hours now, slowing only to refuel and perhaps cross some terrain.

But Iraqi radio and TV (according to the BBC) is denying that there have been any incursions into Iraqi territory.

Who do you think was telling the truth?

Personally, I think Iraqi media will have a lot to explain to do when the 7th arrives outside of Baghdad.
