Any War : Truth Is The First Victim

Sat Mar 22, 2003 12:25 am

A top U.S. military commander in the Gulf on Friday predicted a swift victory in the war against Iraq, and a British military spokesman said the allied forces would "hopefully" be in Baghdad in three to four days. But U.S. Central Command headquarters in Qatar has imposed a news blackout on operations.

By combining public optimism, a dearth of operational detail and carefully controlled news images of rapidly advancing troops, the allies aim to intimidate and befuddle the Iraqis.

But while the world watches American armoured columns race deep into the country, other, messier operations are likely to be unfolding out of the public eye.

Don't complain - I've never seen better coverage in a war. You have reporters imbedded in front-line units, frequently broadcasting live video even when on the move.

But I hope that they do show restraint (and if they don't, get censured) if things get nasty. Nothing can destroy a democratic nation's will to fight when they start seeing bodies on a battlefield. Thank God TV can't transmit smell.

Keeje, are you suggesting that the military doesn't have a vested interest in controling the release of information concerning their activites.

Might help the enemy.

Information steering is beyond hiding secrets for the enemy.
It is about creating a perception for the homefront & the enemy.

The public wants a clean, distant & techno war and does not want to see/ hear fear, blood and ripped apart body's

CNN, ABC, NBC etc. want the Biggest & Most Satisfied Audience.

This is a deal made in Hell

The horrible truth of war is grief & pain, dead & crying men.

Therefore Truth is the First Victim.
