Major Battle Taking Place In Basara

Sat Mar 22, 2003 7:07 pm

It looks like a lot of the easy running is done.

Marines report they are ingaged in some major fighing on the outskits of Basara in Iraq.

I knew an E-8 when I was in the service who had been there in 1991. Said that was the one place where they started getting major resistance from the Iraqi Army.

Reports are now that some cities north of Basra have been taken, cutting off any Iraqi forces from the rest of Iraq. Kind of like Dunkirk back in 1940.  Smile

Basra will have to be taken, but it can basically be bypassed now in the drive to Baghdad. I'm beginning to think (and hope) that a massive fight for Baghdad may not actually take place. There'll be some fighting, but it seems as if the whole Iraqi army as just vanished. For everyone involved, that would be the ideal-except for those who shall remain nameless who would LOVE to see a bloody firefight involving U.S. troops.

They won't remain nameless long. They'll come charging on here in just a little bit, I'm sure.  Smile

Boy this was has been a lot easier on Basara then the last one was.

Last war I understand that town was two foot high by the time the B-52 strikes where done.
