You like Star Trek, ADG? I wasn't a fan of the original series that much-my wife was-but I loved TNG, the movies, Voyager. With my schedule, and with the fact that two other shows (Angel and West Wing) run at the same time as Enterprise on Wednesday nights here, my wife really can't tape Enterprise, so I've rarely watched it.

God, we have something in common!  Big thumbs up

God, we have something in common!

More than you think .. I love Angel & West Wing, but cannot watch either of them so I have to wait for the DVD's. I've only seen seasons 1 and 2 of Angel and Season 1 of West Wing (so I don't know who dies!  Wow! - but don't tell me )

I get Enterprise from the NET and will get the DVD's as they're released. I have most of TNG on DVD now, but TOS is far to old to be worried to much about it now and they don't kick arse like DS9 do. Voyager lacked the appeal of the others for me as i'm not into "borg enhanced body parts" but i'll collect them as they're released. I'm also considering a stopover at the Las Vegas Hilton next time i'm out that way.

WEll you can have more than one, have as many as you like .. we're trying to think of good things ....

huge snowdrifts ...
mount rushmore ...
big airshows ...
Blue Angels ...
Latest Technologies in Medicine ...
Huge smiles (lots a teeth) and good dental hygiene (not that i'm suggesting other countries lack that)
That TV show on forensic science they show on discovery ..
Mel Gibson, Arnie, Sly, Nicholas Cage & Tommy Lee Jones

Well, since some other Americans have joined in, and because I'm a European-American, here's my list:

Old-Fashioned small towns
Breathtaking mountains (can even rival the Alps in some ways)
Deserts that bloom
World-class artists... and doctors... and scientists...
Vibrant cities with great skylines
Air-conditioning virtually anywhere
PBS
The Simpsons
Lots of cable TV choice
Friendly people
Wonderful blend of cultures
Real lemonade
Incredible museums
Smoking bans in most public places (Europe, I like you, but please take note)
Diverse music scene
Great customer service (with notable exceptions...)
Calvin & Hobbes
Great weather coverage on TV
California (again, with notable exceptions...), and most other states I've visited (and I've been to the vast majority west of Texas and some to the east)
The Southwest, its nature and fascinating cultures
College towns
No shortage of personal space
Trader Joe's
No need to ask for ice in drinks
Seinfeld
Plenty of bookstores (both the big chains and the independents)
Diverse weather (to put it mildly...)
Quality universities
Lots of great restaurants
Steakhouses
The Prescott Brewing Company (I don't drink, but I love their fabulous affordable food)
No-questions-asked money-back guarantees
American "style" of broadcasting (but not always the contents)
The New York Times
Great graphic design
amazon.com
Wonderful architecture
Thriving film industry (particularly "artsy" and independent movies, but many mainstream flicks as well)
Tree-lined neighborhoods
Tons of motels everywhere, making traveling easy (if a bit unromantic)
The West Wing
Woody Allen (I finally agree with Sebolino on something)
The Daily Show with John Stewart
Bacon cheeseburgers with caramelized onions
Lots of oldies radio stations

There's a lot more, but this is what came to mind just now...

One of my favorite things is that general aviation is relatively inexpensive compared to the rest of the world.

I love too many aspects of America to list...

The Skyscrapers of New York
The Swamps of Louisiana

The deserts of Nevada
The forests of Maine

The goodness of Salt Lake City
The badness of Las Vegas

The man-made architecture of Washington, DC
The natural architecture of the Grand Canyon

The heat in Arizona
The cold in Minnesotta

The interstate highway system
The Delta Worldport hub in Atlanta
The Northwest World Gateway in Detroit

Disneyworld

NASA

Grits (well ok, maybe not grits...)

However, in my opinion the most lovable aspects of the United States of America were :

Due Process
Fairness
Equality
Freedom of speech
Respect of human rights

America earned their moral authority through the decades by (for the most part) carefully applying these universal principles around the globe.

I'm not anti-American by any means, but I oppose the policies that the US Government is following right now, primarily because their actions are eroding that moral authority by not accepting the absolute relevance of those principles. In truth, I feel like a child who has been told that there is no Santa Claus. I feel that the 3 years I spent working with a US police department and putting my life on the line to uphold the laws that I loved so much have been suddenly devalued. On September 11, 2001 I knew that the United States of America was the only victim of that horrible day, but today I'm not so sure anymore.

And it is BECAUSE I love the United States of America so much that I will stand up and be counted among those who think she is doing wrong.

Once again, very well said, B747-437B! Every person who believes in the American idea should respect and admire this position.

Affordable Broadband Internet

Deregulated telecom industry - Choose who you want to provide your local phone service.

Deregulated Utility companies (in many states) I know, a disaster in southern california, but in the long run it's good.

A top notch interstate highway system - Germany's Autobahn is still ahead, but not the speed limit free haven it used to be - talk about traffic!

Arnold Schwarzenegger...

Southwest Airlines - you are now free to move about the country!

Music, Movies, Steakhouses!
