CNN: Becoming Pentagons Puppy’s?

Tue Mar 25, 2003 1:12 am

First : I don't blame the Pentagon for giving out selective / incorrect info to protect their interest, enforced their objectives etc .... It is simply a part of today's psychological warfare ...

I look a lot of different news sources (BCC, WBR, GOOGLE, REUTERS, etc, etc) what strikes me at CNN is
- The wording they use to steer public perception
- The Predictable Selection of News
- The Shameless Enthusiasm about advanced weapons Boy-Toys.
- Consistent Avoidance of Reporting on Human Tragedy taking Place
- The docile reporting of deliberate overstated successes
- The TV hugging of Veteran Generals and Independent specialists

http://www.cnn.com

Often they are forced by other international news broadcasting competitors (BBC, Al Jaz) to report unpopular developments but do so clearly unwillingly and never take the lead.

Obviously I'm not the onlyone telling them, I think CNN themselves feel something is smelling. Therefore they now (last 36 hours ?) started emphasizing on their journalistic independence and hiding behind other sources.

IS CNN compromised by the full support of the Military ?? Is it a new kind of Patriotic News Coverage, doing their duty ? Are they steered by public appreciating or Advertiser guidelines ?

If so, no problem, but don't pretend to be Independent Newssource then....

I've been watching the coverage on FoxNews, so I can't speak for CNN, but while Fox definately has a patriotic tone to it (why wouldn't it), it doesn't appear to be hiding the problems. In fact, according to Fox, the US and UK had a pretty crappy day yesterday. Lots of acute problems, but the overall picture, while slowed, still seems to be in our favor.

i think that one has to make his own mind and opinion and not just accept what each TV Station is broadcasting in these days. Even CNN is getting a bit biased.
Maybe some of you here can understand Arabic like myself. I for myself listen/watch many broadcast stations and then try to find where the truth is.
What i have noticed on many occasions (today minimum 5) is that some translation out of Arabic news is by far wrong or strong misleading. I went nuts to see how certain banners in Arabic (not only on Al Jazeera, but on Abou Dhabi TV for instance) are very 'incorrectly' translated into English.
This happened too many times to justify a poor translation but to rather imply manipulated journalism. Even in previous year when the second letter of Osama Bin Laden was shown on TV (CNN) one could clearly hear the voice in Arabic (Osama Bin Laden speaks a very clear and 'clean' Arabic) and then listen to the English translations. Believe it or not, many things were not translated at all and other things were deformed.
What iam trying to tell you guys: not only Iraq is manipulating journalism but also other countries known for their famous 'freedom of Jornalism'
Never rely on news thoese days, watch many of it and try to conclude your own opinion.

Best regards

I tuned into CNN long enough to see Aaron Brown figure out that the troops killed and taken prisoner in the videos shown by the Iraqis on Sunday were the same smiling, confident unit that had been profiled by CNN on a pre-hostilities "life in Kuwait" piece.

The cracking of his voice kinda indicated that the journalistic line had been crossed. For good reason.

Go Canada, I agree with that, but I don't think it skews or sugar-coats their reporting. On viewing and reading other media outlets, I'm pretty much seeing the same stuff.

jet, i see what you me, they have a habit though of being slightly too right for my liking. when the space shuttle crashed they went overboard on president bush rather than focusing on the victims.

These same media outlets...CNN, FOX news are also reporting how Saddam says his Army is kicking our collective asses, and is going to win the war as well. Obviously there will be a patriotic turn to these as there main customer base is indeed in the U.S.

You have interesting concepts of "patriotic tones" .. feral zealousness springs to mind. Aussie press is much more interesting to watch, indeed as I sit in IRC listening to Aussie news we're seeing news that isn't necessarily being reported in the United States .. well, on CNN and Fox anyway.

Kroc: showing that tape is not proof of any lack of "overly zealous patriotic tones". Aussie media is questioning the hypocrisy of the US propoganda machine, have you seen the questioning the rest of the world is doing over those stupid Geneva Convention comments?

Look at the title :

Excitement as aid arrives

Then read the news below :

CNN's Becky Diamond is aboard an Australian ship near the Sir Galahad, and she reports on the anticipated arrival.

This is the kind of news that makes me think CNN is compromised & Baised.
