Seeking Advice On Music To Choose For Main Event

Fri Mar 28, 2003 2:43 pm

So, yes, we are planning some wedding music and have many ideas already.

I figure some of you are married and can throw some ideas our way....just looking to see what you guys have done or heard played at weddings.

What songs went well and what didnt?

I wonder if you guys recall the song that was played when they advertised "The JFK Jr Story" It was also the song that plays as the ending credits of The Bourne Identity begin to roll.

It's a Moby tune called "Extreme Ways." How does that sounds as a background song to be played while the wedding party and us are introduced? Just s thought.

"I F**k Like a Beast" by W.A.S.P. probably won't go over too well, that's for sure..  Big grin

If you want something classical, Pachelbel's "Canon in D Minor" is always good, albeit somewhat overused lately.

How about the theme from "Battlestar Galactica" just for fun?

I must assume you do not have the scratch to hire a decent band. That's okay. With a deejay, make sure he keeps hi mouth shut unless you give him specific instructions to make announcements.

Anyway, keep in mind you will have older and younger people present. Ergo, no extremes like ZZTop, Rudy Valley, or Britney Spears. You really can't go wrong with some of Sinatra's early to mid 60s stuff. One song that is a must: "The Way You Look Tonight." Sinatra recorded it in 1967, I believe. Good luck!

I have sung at a number of weddings (and played guitar) in my younger days. One tune that always went over well, just before the bride comes down the ailse to "Here Comes the Bride" is "The Wedding Song" by Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul & Mary). I'm sure that you can find it on Kazaa or other such file-share sites.

Another favorite (again, deal with my dating myself), if you're into a somewhat country flair, would be Anne Murray's "Could I Have This Dance" or Leanne Rhimes' "How Can I Breathe?"

We'll have to check out that weding song! Thanks!

Incidentally, last night, my mentor took my fiancee and I out for sushi as thanks for working in his office.

He gave my fiancee a lil bang with a small gift inside, saying that he was just walking through Borders bookstore and saw this and thought we might like it.

In was a CD with all wedding songs. Ironic I guess considering this thread is a few days old.

Yeah, we booked a DJ but he's a good one, highly recommended and is working with us on songs.

No votes for that Moby song as an entrance song at the reception?

If you are looking for reception music, consider Van Morrison's "Someone Like You" from the "Poetic Champions Compose" CD, espescially as the first dance. Especially fitting if one travelled a lot prior to meeting the "right" one.
