"Shock And Awe" Finished?

Sat Mar 29, 2003 8:52 am

Just wondering if the "shock and awe" phase of the war is over. Does anyone know? And if so, how shocking and and how awsome do you think it was?

I think the creators of this silly phrase have realized that war is a serious business and not some bad Bruce Willis film made for teenage boys with the attention span of a june bug.

When the American public starts to see dead bodies, its just shocking and not awesome.

I hope they put a lid on this revolting phraseology and give it a rest for the remainder of this conflict.

Well I don't even think Hollywood would bother making a movie with the same name

Then of course they did give Nicky Kidman an Oscar. (the disguise musta worked well)

Any chance she can pick it up at Iraq, after all, if Art is so important (her words) she can wave her Hollywood flag there

Whatever it is called, I don't think it's over. I just have a hunch that, before the Battle of Baghdad begins in earnest that the U.S. is going to try and pound the Republican Guards mercessly for a good week or so, just to soften them up and try to soften their resolve to fight.

Anyone seen those Earthview.com pictures of Baghdad that CNN's been showing? Baghdad is one sprawling city, and if you look how many BLOCKS will have to be taken, well, the battle for that city could last several weeks to a month.

The Americans and British will linger outside of Baghdad poised to invade at any moment keeping the opposition busy and anxious. This staredown will go on and on. Meanwhile, covert ops will be going on inside the city to hunt down the scumbag.

Breaking news, further advance on Baghdad halted for 4-6 todays.

Possibly waiting for the British to finish in the town they're in and lead the advance into baghdad

Chance for the ground troops to do some sight seeing

Just remember what we've seen on tv is only a small part of what is happening. I bet the real "shock & awe" has been on the Iraqi ground troops and it isn't likely we'll be seeing lots of video of those strikes.

The 4-6 day halt might also be to allow the 4th ID to deploy to the front.
