If you go to see Al-Jazeera's offices you will see that there is no where to fit all the awards they got. They are really proud of what they achieved and they deserve it.
"They are seriously up there with western agencies like the BBC as far as credibility goes."
Sean it is interesting that you mention that, Al-Jazeera was started in the ashes of the BBC Arabia service. BBC wanted to start an Arab language channel, the project failed because of censorship and editorial influence by the Saudi Government and Saudi investors. After it failed the Emir of Qatar offered all the ex-BBC staff a large grant, editorial freedom, and no censorship and so Al-Jazeera was started.
"Why? So we can hear them be a PR
firm for OBL
and Saddam in our native language? No thanks.''
I always thought that Americans are above conspiracy theories unlike us Arabs who will believe anything. Al-Jazeera has been accused of being a propaganda tool for the United States, Israel and the Zionist movemen by several Arab governments, just like the US accuses Al-Jazeera of the same thing but from Al-Qaeda. Whenever they have panel discussions they ALWAYS bring people from both sides. If something has to do with the Israel/Palestine Issue they always bring Israeli officials, analysts and journalists. The same on the war on Al-Qaeda, where they always had a US secretary of state official in the discussions.
The english channel is coming online late 2003 or 2004.
