Remember "Compassionate Conservatism"?

Mon Mar 31, 2003 11:18 pm

During the campaign Bush talked about "compassionate conservativsm."

What examples are there of this?

I suppose war is compassionate?

It refers to domestic policy, not foreign policy.

I see. So finding $75 billion for war that could go for health care, housing, state grants, etc. is compassion?

Seriously, what has Bush done domestically under "compassionate conservatism?"

"Compassionate Conservatism" was the first in a long littany of frauds visited upon our country by the present Bush Administration.

Prior to 11SEP things seemed to go just as GWB said they would. He said he wanted to get a tax cut, he got a tax cut. He said he would try to have open dialogue with members of each political party in congress, he was starting to do that.

Then sometimes plans are changed for you. That's too bad that's the way life is.

Since the single greatest threat to the lives and livliehoods of american citizens right now is the threat of terrorism, I can't think of anything I would have done differently since 11SEP01.

That's too bad that's the way life is.

The single clearest thing Osama bin Laden was hoping for as a result of 9/11 was a vast West-vs.-Islam conflagration, the penultimate jihad pitting the Infidels against Muslims.

For a while, it looked as if his hopes were dashed. Our sights were set on justice above vengence. Afghanistan wasn't liberated...the perpetrators of 9/11 were hunted down.

Now, it looks as if that great holy war has begun.

Jessman is right. 9/11 changed domestic and foreign policy and became something that no previous US President has faced. Who's to say that Al Gore, Bill Clinton, or any of the other garbage that the Democratic Party has brought to the table, would have done any better job? I would love to see the GWB-bashers of the world, take over his job for 48 hours and see how much better they could do. Most likely, all of them would come away with a great deal of respect for ANY idiot who seeks/obtains the office of President of the United States. Its a truly thankless job. No matter what you do or don't do, someone is going to complain. Look at the official portraits of any modern President when they took office and then compare that to when they left office. Even one-term Presidents look like they've aged 20 years (even Reagan looked worse - a true stretch).

The pressure these people are under, 24/7, is enormous. Most of the GWB-bashers would buckle under that pressure in a matter of days. Cut the man some slack. If you don't like Bush, then vote him out next year. Until then, quit whining about it! Its gotten quite old! Let's see what drivel the Democratic Party puts up for selection this time around...

The term, "Compassionate conservatism" has gone into the dustbin of history along with that other PR-firm created atrocity "Shock and Awe."

I'm sorry. You guys revere Clinton and say what a far better President he was. Let's see - when faced with a Congressional Impeachment vote, he goes out and starts a short bombing campaign designed solely to deflect attention from his problems keeping his dick in his pants and lying under oath about it. Yep, you're right - a far better President than anyone else out there!!!

Let's see - he is the second US President in history to be impeached. Yep, that's a legacy to follow for any future President!
