Rugby World Cup

Tue Apr 01, 2003 12:06 am

This one comes up periodically, but in the light of England's hugely impressive demolition of a very good Irish side to win the Six Nations Championship and Grand Slam, are the Aussies and Kiwis (we know about South Africa, they were absolutely thumped by just about everyone last year) on here quaking in their boots yet?

Or if that is too much to ask (and let's be honest, it is) what did you think of the performance and will you at last accept that England are serious contenders for the crown?

Incidentally, both Ireland and France have shown themselves quite capable of beating southern hemisphere opposition recently, the whole European standard has improved substantially.

Except in Wales of course.  Big grin

Yes, sadly, South Africa will probably pull a repeat performance and exit out of this sport's World Cup in the first round as well  Sad At least it won't be because certain unnamed members of the squad can't count  Big grin

My prediction : NZ to win this time

England? Let's see how the opening rounds work out!

Hmm. The "big match" of England's first round is against South Africa. I'm sure the Springboks will want revenge, but bearing in mind the 53-3 stuffing they had at Twickenham, it seems a bit too much to ask for them to improve by that degree.

Ok, since the Aussies beat the daylights out of India in the cricket world cup final, I'll make my own preferences clear:

Ireland beat France the other day, I think France's side isn't too strong this year. The Eagles will soon play Spain in Fort Lauderdale. Should be a good game. I have not decided who I want in the World Cup. I need to watch some more. But I will stay true and stick with Ireland. If USA doesn't go.

France blow hot and cold, AA61hvy, but I wouldn't say that Ireland beating France was down to France not performing as such. Ireland are a terrific side, the best they've had in years. Supporting them at the World Cup shouldn't cause you to feel let down.
