Robin Williams At It Now

Tue Apr 01, 2003 1:25 pm

http://www.sfgate.com/columnists/dailydish/

Funnyman Robin Williams has launched a scathing attack on President George W. Bush and his decision to go ahead with war on Iraq.

The "One Hour Photo" actor also criticizes what he sees as his country's mixed messages when it comes to national security.

He says, "America is broke, basically, but Bush wants to wage a war that costs pretty much a billion dollars a month.

"We have a president for whom English is a second language. He's like 'We have to get rid of dictators,' but he's pretty much one himself.

"In America, we have orange alert, but what the hell does that mean? We're supposed to be afraid of Krishna? Of orange sorbet? Then it's like, 'You can't go out and shop, it's too dangerous out there,' but if that happens then the economy falls.

"The message is so mixed: 'Be afraid, but not too afraid.'"

Freaking hilarious, Robin.... Maybe you ought to stick to making shitty drama/action movies.

Great, now Mork thinks he is in the "know", and is smarter than anyone who actually has all the information needed to make such decisions. Where is Mindy to keep this clown occupied.

Well, maybe Robin can make a movie in 2013 called "Good Morning, Baghdad".

Until then, he can just shut up.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

So what? Again, I don't know why anyone pays attention to ANY celeb from La-La Land, pro or con, on the war. Why are their views any more important than your's or mine? And they're certainly entitled to their views, whatever they are.

Besides, Robin is one funny guy  Big grin I'll cut him a little slack.

Why does anyone care what Robin Williams has to say on the subject? Lets let those in the "know" make the decisions and leave Robin to making films.

Wow, more dribble from Hollyweird. You'd think they would realize the only people who agree with them are those that are as far out in space as they are.

B757300, I could say the same for guys like James Woods. Funny how, in typical conservative fashion, you lop everyone in the same nice, neat category. There's a few nuts of the right in La-La Land, and they're equally annoying.

We just had dinner in NYC the other night and saw Colin Quinn at a comedy club. He wasn;t scheduled to appear but showed up of course to give his rant about the war as well. unbelieveable!

Sheesh, guys, chill out. Every time any one notable says anything against Bush or the war, you guys start foaming at the mouth. Your reactive attitudes are as ridiculous as some of the things the celebrities are saying.

IMHO, I think Robin Williams is trying to inject some humour into things. He's good at that. And, he has valid points. I think the stupid "terror alert status" colours are comical, as do many people, who don't know what to think about them. And also, it's ridiculous, the paranoia-induced propagandic TV ads I've been seeing, showing rolls of duct tape, and advertising that stupid ready.gov (or whatever it is) website that tells Americans how to prepare for terrorist attacks. Just for shits and grins, I'm gonna check that site out and see if it's really as dumb as it sounds.

Go, Robin. Big grin

It's called survival of the fittest. A funny man attacks a funny man. It's all about Ratings

Now there's a man you should have voted President. A true comedian not one that doesn't understand why everyone is laughing at him.

More foaming at the mouth from the usual a.net North American Taliban.

What do you do all day? Police the internet for thoughts that challenge the "wisdom" of your Supreme Leader, GWBush? What an Orwellian nightmare you're living in !

Humor, freedom of speech, democracy, and satire are clearly concepts that you have no appreciation for - or understanding of. You and your intellectual compatriots skulking around the caves near Kabul.

"Until then, he can just shut up."

LOL! Shouting words coming from the self-anointed cheerleader of Western Democracy.

Let's burn all our Mork & Mindy lunchboxes! Hissss! Grrrrrrr!

Here's another scathing attack on George W. Bush...he's a spineless coward scumbag who sat out Vietnam on Daddy's dime and now sends other people's kids to die for his Texas oil buddies.

Have I been in anyway subtle?

Just for the record: I happen to thing Robin Williams is extremely funny, however, I don't give a flyin' @$#& about his political views. It's his right to say what he wants. It's my right to think it's idiotic.

Oh c'mon Heavy, you're getting too wound up, as are others on this thread. Admittedly, American politics aren't quite my forte, but I do find that rather funny, even if the message goes contrary to your political beliefs. There are plenty of satirical depictions of both sides of the argument. Maybe I should go search for something that parodies Bush and co, just to even things out  Smile

Barf...

Actually, I did laugh. The first ten hundred times. But if that's all they've got to fall back on.....Alec Baldwin? (yawn) I mean it's like the anti-gun dopes with Charlton Heston. How about spending less time trying to put a face on your objections and more time trying to explain them.

I do find humor in the "Instant Authority" headline there...that has multiple applications.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

How come, when Jay Leno makes jokes about the French, he is a real patriot, yet when another comedian makes critical remarks about the war, he is one of those "Hollyweirds?"

I'm surprised it took Robin Williams THIS long to spout out.  Insane

Especially since his family are long, long time Democrats.

Besides, he's made quite a lot of money from past movies and live comedy concerts--why do you think he lives in the most expensive neighborhood in San Francisco just west of the Presidio?

Mind you, given the way Robin Williams says things it's real hard to figure out if he's sincere or joking.
