About Germany Not Helping...

Fri Apr 04, 2003 4:55 am

I've read several times that Germany "is not helping" the US, and doesn't take any risk.

As far as I know, only the US and the UK, and to a far lesser degree Australia have taken combat risk. All the other countries in the "coalition of the willing" have either not sent any troops, or just some "symbolical" troops who don't take part in any fighting.

If you count that as taking risk:

Since 2001, there are German Fuchs Anti-ABC armored vehicles based in Kuwait in order to protect the Kuwaiti people and the US forces in Kuwait.
And many of the US soldiers fighting in Iraq are based in Germany, hundreds of logistical flights are departing in Frankfurt and Ramstein, the medical center of the US is in Landstuhl, Germany. Guess where Jessice Lynch is by now. Not mentioning that Germany is after the US, the 2nd biggest contributor to international peacekeeping/peacemaking missions (not counting the UK forces in Iraq), Germany is leading the UN mission in Macedonia, and, together with the Dutch, the mission in Afghanistan aswell. German KSK troops have fought along with the US special forces and the British SAS in the mountains of Afghanistan against the taliban.

When you read all this, keep in mind that military action is still something regarded very sensitive in this country, especially abroad.

Your hated Gerhard Schröder, aswell as Joschka Fischer, has risked his political life for the combat-mission in Afghanistan.

We didn't agree with your opinion on the war, and we don't participate with our troops in this war, but we are helping you fighting the threat of terrorism, and we are helping you with the Iraq war.

And you didn´t even mention our main contribution to Gulf War III:

German soldiers are guarding US military installations in Germany, thereby freeing US personnel capacity who can go to Iraq instead.

It seems that ignoring facts is more comfortable than discussing in a fair manner for some members...

It's no surprise that this thread has so few replies, just proves a lot of the Germany and France threads are only there to stir shit.

I'm just kidding folks, lighten up and learn to laugh...for the past few weeks we've all been tensed up.

Besides, we all know Poland's WMD program is a threat to Russia, so the Germans wouldn't give a rat's ass!  Big grin

Well germany doesn't have a good track record in War but at least they have realised that fighting is not the answer to everything. I applaud them for not wishing to get involved in another countries problems. The world will be a better place when all countries can leave each other alone.

It's gulf war III, maybe you should pay more attention during the history lessons.

Glenn,

I don't think that war is never unavoidable. Sometimes, war is the "less-worse" solution than letting a government continue.

I have never heard the Iran-Iraq War listed at Gulf War I.

Only recently has there been a gulf war I and II, before it was just called the Persian Gulf war.

Me neither, I thought this was Gulf War 2. That great movie-poster thing says Gulf War 2, the one with Bush and Connie Rice on it.

Ummm...no Racko...wrong. The war between Iran and Iraq is known as the Iran/Iraq war. The Persian Gulf War in 91 was Desert Storm...the First Gulf War. Perhaps YOU should pay more attention to your history lessons.

This is "Gulf War II". The war between Iran and Iraq is knows as the Iran Iraq war. This goes out to the German fellas. Thanks for guarding our military installations as we go off to war. Don't drink our bear or sleep with our women.
