Rummy wipes his ass with that hand, too. What's your point?

He shook hands 20 years ago and it is significant now? Hardly.

At that time the Soviet Union was a far worse evil than Iraq was (or is today, even).

What a ridiculous comment. The world has completely changed since 1980.

Anything for an anti-American comment huh ADG?

Oh yes you are. Australia's relationship with Indonesia has risen and fallen many times over the years: one year you're conducting joint military exercises, the next you're growling at each other. No different that the US' relationship with many countries.

You simply delight in anti-American nonsensical statements with no backup.

People that criticize the U.S. government for moments like the one captured in that photo, seem to ignore that this was an example of what wanted they want to prolong...diplomacy. Something that many criticize the U.S. for not doing enough of.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

They tried to work with Saddam for a long time, and no matter what the U.S. ever did, it is clear that Saddam is unwilling to work with and be a part of the civilized world.

Again nothing but ignorance at what goes on outside your borders. Your statement is incorrect.

You simply delight in anti-American nonsensical statements with no backup.

Actually, that's incorrect .. you interpret anti-american statements in almost everything that is written. Ignorant and arrogant .. interesting mix  Laugh out loud

Now get back to putting smart arse inaccurate and worthless comments after everything i've written, I like the attention......

At that time the Soviet Union was a far worse evil than Iraq was (or is today, even).

Then why haven't we attacked Russia.

Maybe they have the means to fight back ?????????????????????????????/

Maybe they have no oil fields like Iraq

Maybe because Bush doesn't know where Russia is

Maybe Bush likes Vodka

Maybe pushing the Propaganda aside from teh cold war, Russia really doesn't matter

By Cripes, I will be in Roast Lamb. what a good choice
(The lamb that sacrificed itself for a good cause)

Maybe Russia doesn't have WMDs

Nah I think it's cause Russia would fight back

What's the problem? Sadaam was "our" dictator 30 years ago. The US government tends to have no issues with sadistic dictators as long as they "belong" in our pocket. Do the countries of Vietnam, Iran, Nicaragua, Panama and the various facist leaders they've had (supported officially by US policy) ring a bell?
Please don't get me wrong, I love my country and our constitution but I feel free to rip my government a new asshole when it is deserved.

Lets see here, 1983.

3 years after the Iran Hostage crisis and they where not very popular with us.

And Iraq was thumping up on the Iranians.

yeah real funny that one. Of course when the US didn't like Iran, I guess they needed Iraq. But then USA wanted to sell IRAN watered down F14s once too.

Glenn we did sell Iran watered down F-14's.

One may still be working.

There where a bunch of F-16's that didn't make the trip though, I think they might have ended up in Isreal but don't hold me to that.

A little more background on the pic and events after it:

From http://www.commondreams.org/views02/0802-01.htm

"In March of 1984, with the Iran-Iraq war growing more brutal by the day, Rumsfeld was back in Baghdad for meetings with then-Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz. On the day of his visit, March 24th, UPI reported from the United Nations: “Mustard gas laced with a nerve agent has been used on Iranian soldiers in the 43-month Persian Gulf War between Iran and Iraq, a team of U.N. experts has concluded... Meanwhile, in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, U.S. presidential envoy Donald Rumsfeld held talks with Foreign Minister Tarek Aziz (sic) on the Gulf war before leaving for an unspecified destination.” "
