For Those Who Blame The U.S. For Starving Iraqi's

Mon Apr 07, 2003 11:44 pm

....take a look at the opulence of Saddam's palaces being shown on the networks. Look at the marble floors; look at the gold sinks, and the gigantic rooms, made of marble and stone; look at his expensive sheets on his bed, and what were nicely manicured gardens and Palace Grounds.

Now, times that by like 54, and tell me again that it was the U.S. that starved the Iraqi's? Seems to me Saddam took all this oil money and made himself a king, at the expense of his people.

This one goes right next to "no war for oil", in the rubbish heap.

Nice digs...

Here's a shot of a US soldier in Saddam's Baghdad Palace. Apparently he had over a hundred palaces like this.

How long before the usual suspects come in to defend Saddam's lifestyle? It doesn't take a genius to realize that the people of Iraq were suffering at the hands of Saddam who was more interested in having a different lavish palace for each day of the year.....

Come on people, didn't he deserve to have a comfortable place to live?
And with the evil Jews and Americans after him he needed something big to have a good defensive perimeter and needed something different each day to be a harder target...

Can't blame him for accepting those palaces as a gracious gift from the grateful Iraqi people who love their Leader so much.

Cfalk..

He is a Tommie.

No self respecting US soldier would be caught dead packing an SA-80.

LOL! I saw a picture of the master bedroom, and it DID remind me of Austin Powers' bedroom in the 747.

I confess I am quite surprised.

I thought that all the reports, all the information coming from the most varied sources had demonstrated years and years ago that Saddam lived in style.

I am astonished by the surprise you people demonstrate. It is incredible. I though you could not surprise me any more.

Silly me Big grin

Saddam Hussein is a dictator, you are not supposed to see dictators living in huts are you?

Where have you been when the whole world was saying Saddam was a murderer ?

Where were you when the USA was helping uncle Saddam to fight Iran?

Where were you when the god Old USA was teaching him how to gas, his population and the Iranians?

You were not aware of that?

Of course not, at the time it was not just "interesting", to be aware of that. Helping Saddam then, was fighting for democracy, free speech, The US was helping Saddam to fight the Aiatollas from Iran, which by then where the worst thing on earth.

I think Saddam was a dictator then, I think he is a dictator now!

As usually I am speechless in the presence of some of our "so well informed American friends" So incredibly documented. So well informed, that they take conclusions, when they look at a picture, and only when the picture is placed at a minimum of 50 cm of their eyes.

If it was not sad, I would laugh

It so easy to put up a picture of Saddam's palaces and contrast that with "suffering Iraqi's" and make a pretty skewed statement! How about putting up a picture of the US White House alongside, um a black ghetto in Harlem? Similar effect!

The people of Iraq were doing quite nicely until the US/UK imposed illegal sanctions, The sanctions are what have caused the suffering.

Why werent the sanctions removed in 1995? or 1998? Why? Becuase the US wanted Iraq to stagnate. They wanted the people to suffer so they would rise up in revolt against Saddam. But that still did not happen. So they moved in!

This is so humorous I can hardly find words to respond.

Think of it, an immense oil producing country with vast wealth that never looked like any gulf state that it could out-produce in oil.

So why didn't it? One answer, the greedy tyrant Saddam.

And by the way, for those of you whom OBVIOUSLY forgot, those sanctions were U.N. sanctions.

Selective memories are easily shot down.

Amusing nothing more.

Roll On!

The problem with Erj190 and Indianguy's points is that the pic of the Royal Marine was in a palace built in 1996, in fact most of the palace on the news were built in the 1990's, when Iraqi people were starving, so if there had been no sanctions the logic is that he would have built those places anyway, plus a shitload of arms.
I think the response in Basra now his goons are dead or have run away, speaks volumes.

Judging by the age (and mental acuities) of the usual bunch of rabble rousers on here, I suspect that:
a. They were not born as yet, or were still toddlers in the 80s; or
b. They were blissfully unaware of who Saddam Hussein was, or where Iraq was or what it was; or
c. They were too busy watching Magnum PI or Dynasty; or
d. They were too busy pulling the lever for Reagan/Bush; or
e. The news in the US was too busy covering other issues like "Donald Trump gets new bimbo for wife;" or
f. They really couldn't give a damn because those dead civilians Saddam killed weren't props in propaganda for a war waged by a wag-the-dog President; or
g. All of the above.

"How long before the usual suspects come in to defend Saddam's lifestyle?"

Keep holding your breath. And while you're at it do a FOIA request at the State department or the Dept. of Commerce to determine how much $$$ we sent Saddam's way in 1987.

Frankly, those palaces were positively hideous. Sorry, but Arab despots (including the Saudi variants) aren't exactly known for their refined taste. The best thing that can happen to those palaces is for the US to drop a few well-aimed cluster bombs and finish the job once and for all.

Because Iraq hadn't met the conditions under which those sanctions would be removed, which is full disarmement and disclosure together with full cooperation with the UN.

I think no head-of-state lives in poverty, anywhere in the world. And their slaves hunger in other parts of the world as well. The rich do not open their pockets to the poor. Not on this planet.

Right Malina, I also think that no head of state lives in poverty.

My prime minister doesn't for sure. His wife has a good job as a school teacher. In addition he makes himself about $150k!!! (from which he only has to pay roughly half as income tax). Plus free car with chauffeur.

Such people certainly live a decent life! I have to work hard - and overtime too - to make just half of his income.

Luckily for the allies the Tikrit mob spent too much money on themselves than
on their own people, pretty stupid I say, but the Kuwait war was also stupid. Mainly people who support them abroad don´t know them
or where bribed (palestinians got money).
