NHL Playoffs

Tue Apr 08, 2003 6:13 am

Well, everything is set. Which series are you most looking forward to? Who do you think will win each? Make your picks from start to end, who will take this year's Cup?

Now that my 'Canes are out I'm pulling for the Lightning...they could be the Hurricanes of this year.
Realistically I look for the Avs to come out of the West and the Devils to come out of the East.
In this classic battle of two of the best goalies in the game, Roy will win out. The Avalanche's offensive prowess will get the best of Brodeur and the Avs will lift the cup for the second time. Avs in 6.

I'll be thrilled if the Islanders can extend the series with the Sens to 6 games. The key for the Isles is to play the same abrasive style as they did against the Leafs. Despite Ottawa's recent additions, they are still a team built for the regular season and not the playoffs. Lalime is unproven in the playoffs and hopefully the Isles can use that to their advantage.

Being a long-time Lightning (and Panther's) fan, I am jazzed to see the Lightning heading into the playoffs so strongly. I think they could very well make it all the way (wouldn't that be special - NFL AND NHL championships in the same year?!?!). I think a Roy/Khabibulin match-up would be a classic!

Dallas/Edmonton for the 800th time will be interesting. Picking the Stars to go the distance. And I'm very prejudiced.

In 1915, the Vancouver Millionares defeated the Ottawa Senators to become the first West Coast team to win The Cup. I would love to see the Canucks defeat the Senators this year. Or even the Islanders as vengance against them in 1982.

In the East, I think New Jersey will survive and make it to the Finals. What happened to the Hurricanes this year? Their flukey appearance in the Finals last year was akin to the Caps in 1998.

The real story is, again, in the West. Of course I must go with The Big Red Machine, even though Dallas, Vancouver, Colorado and and St. Louis all have a shot. But the Wings are still too talented, too deep, and well coached. The modern dynasty enjoys Stevie Y, the Captain with the heart of a lion. And Cujo, who appears to be at the top of his game right now. It won't be easy, but the Cup will return to Hockeytown in June for the 4th time in recent memory.

Maggs swings, it's a drive deep to left! The Tigers are going to the World Series!!!

My upset special: Minnesota over Colorado in seven.

I would love to see a Vancouver-Ottawa final, but I don't think that is very likely considering the road Vancouver has to take to the finals, and unanswered questions about Ottawa's resiliency and toughness.

Well, I'll be cheering for the Avalanche, because I know they can do it. I mean, look at the facts - they finished as probably the best team in the league, Hejduk, Forsberg and Tanguay are on top of their games, our defense is very capable with Foote, Blake and Morris. Other backliners are hitting the net too - Skoula, De Vries and Marchment has added a couple of assists over his stay here in Colorado.

Of course, Minnesota is not to be taken lightly - they're a good team. But I think 5 games should be enough to dispose of them and move on to the next opponent.

Seb146 - doesn't it hurt to lose the title in the 82nd game of the season? Big grin

Best first round series will be Toronto-Philly in the east and Vancouver-St.Louis in the west. For the cup? My heart says Leafs, my head says Colorado.

Yeah, the Sabres are in the lower 50% that doesn't make the NHL playoff field. No different than getting wacked in the first round like the Islanders will.
