NBC To Make TV Movie About POW Jessica Lynch

Sat Apr 12, 2003 12:59 am

Just read this on Yahoo. Link is below. I wouldn't be surpriesd if a book (probably end up being a best-seller) or autobiography is in the pipeline...

Does it surprise anybody? I'm glad she was rescued, but c'mon, a bestselling autobiograpy about ONE event? Perhaps they'll delve into her high school dating habits. When should we expect the bestselling books and movie deals for the everyday soldier who quietly served?

Patriotism.

This is probably going to be one of several movies about the Iraq War (as if we haven’t had enough of war movies).

My feelings exactly, KROC.

Although it's kind of sad that Hollywood can't leave anything along to stand on it's own.

But who will play Jessica? Any ideas?  Smile

Maybe the Olsen Twins could play that role. They will bomb in it, and the sooner their career's nosedive, the sooner they end up in PORN!!!!!

Oh! And here I thought "Full House" WAS Porn!?

Seriously though, even though I am glad this young woman is alive and well,
I cannot for the life of me forget the video of the captured African American
female soldier, who was obviously shocked and frightened out of her wits, as she answered questions asked by her Iraqi captors. I am embarrassed to say I cannot remember this womans name, I believe Johnson was her surname?
Does anyone, aside from her family and friends give a damn what happened to her?

Funny, if you're white, blonde and pert, you'll get all the TV air time (and subsequent TV movie of the week) you could ask for. If you're an average overweight African Amercian, well, so be it.

Actually, I told my wife about half an hour after the rescue was reported that there would either be a TV movie or a mini-series about it. We have not yet speculated who would play the part. When she comes out of the hospital, no doubt Larry King and David Letterman will want to have a few words with her.

"...no doubt Larry King and David Letterman will want to have a few words with her."

And therein lies the rub: Will there be as much interest shown in the soldiers who rescued her? It is they who made this story, not Private Lynch. There are a number of POWs still in Iraq, all fine people, all with their own story to tell, all brave and worthy - Private Lynch merely has the good fortune to have been the only one who has (thus far) been rescued.

Better yet, will they have on the Iraqi doctor who risked his life over and over feeding info the U.S. troops so they could have a successful rescue.....didn't think so.

KROC: Damn good point! Of all the people involved in this episode, that Iraqi is possibly the most brave. And yet, who can remember his name? - without doing a quick search on the net!!  Smile

I am sure that NBC will change the story just enough so they don't have to pay her.

They're saying here that they have already been speaking with Buffy about the role.

Guess she's going to kick some demon butt whilst she is there .. but is there a role for the real start of Buffy .. "Willow"?

Actually early reports are that since we are an army of liberation for the Iraqi's, they can't be portrayed as the bad guys. Just wouldn't be politically correct.

So she will instead be rescued from the French.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see ABC try to get her on a new version of "The Bachelorette," setting her up with 25 different guys.

Did you hear of all the stuff she's already got coming her way? Free scholarships, cash, cars, trips to Hawaii, book deals...this girl's never working again!
