A Pardon For Butch Cassidy?

Wed Apr 16, 2003 12:36 am

There is a movement here in the Seagull state of to grant Butch Cassidy a posthumous pardon.

What say you? I say yes.

OK- take that same article, add 100 years to the dates, substitute car theft for "rustling", and read it again. Now suggest a pardon! Sounds kinda stupid to me.

Ok, who actually cares? I never got the point of posthumously doing ANYTHING. You're dead! Who cares if you get medals, or citizenship or a pardon! You're dead!

I'm sure there are more important things going on in the world.

Apart from the futility of romancing dead losers, I`d be willing to bet somebodys`tax dollars are going to be wasted on this somewhere. Some politician, desperate for camera time will take up the cause and waste the time and money of the state gov`t trying to get a pardon for someone who, if they had done the same today, would be facing a stiff sentence. I just don`t get it.

People, calm down. If it doesn't matter, then there's nothing wrong with giving him a pardon.

Nice to see American tax dollars hard at work.

"Nice to see American tax dollars hard at work."

It's nice to see people who don't pay them opining about how they should be spent. Nevermind that the this effort is funded by the Beaver City Council. Their budget is probably smaller than what you spend on comic books and action figures.

I'm saying there is something wrong with it. Romanticizing crime isn't going to improve things. Treat criminals as the lowlife losers they are, and don't sugar coat it.

Well, a historic thug is a little different than a common thug. It's part of our culture. It's not like we are encouraging people to go jack cars. The Wild West was an entirely different world than the one we live in now.

Speed- educate me. I didn't see anything in the article that would make Cassidy any knid of folk hero.

Ok, go to http://www.google.com. Type in "Butch Cassidy." That ought to help.

It would seem that his one redeeming feature is that he gave some of his loot away. Sorry, but to me that dosen't make up for his crimes. I read 3 different articles on him, and every one made him out to be a kind-hearted, even-tempered, loveable scalliwag. Sounds like a bunch of revisionist BS, but that's just me, I guess.

Nutsy,

I would have thought an anarchist like you would love the idea of pardoning a criminal.
