Normal, there's some good singletrack 40 miles south of ROC
in Letchworth State Park. I'm planning a multi-day trip in the Adirondacks, as well. I hear the riding up there is really amazing and unspoiled.
I use my bike as a daily commuter whenever the weather allows, so I've kitted it out for city riding with lights and mirrors and stuff. Drivers here are pretty hostile to pedal power.
That's one of the reasons I chose a hardtail. All that up and down translates to wasted motion when you're riding to work. I have a Rock Shox Judy up front, and that's good enough for me!
