A Stupid And Pointess Little Survey.

Fri Apr 25, 2003 5:54 pm

Ok in another vain attempt to lighten up the discussions, lets take another survey.

What stores can you not go to without dropping at least some cash on the counter?

Personally I can't get out of.

Barnes and Noble.
The Home Depot
Recreational Equiptment Incorperated (REI)

Anybody else have any stores they can't get out of with out buying at least something?

REI?? Shawn, makes me ashamed to know you

I know, But the look of horror on their little faces when I tell them that I use the fine products of Sturm, Ruger and Company for my bear protection makes it worthwhile.

Q: Do you know how to tell if it is bear scat in the woods?

A: It will smell like pepper spray and have those jingle bells they sell to the tourist hikers to warn bears of their approach, in it!

Maultaschen

Maybe next week I will get a chance to make some, I have finals in College this week.

Needless to say I am concentrating on that!

Any supermarket, you wouldn't go into a supermarket just to browse would you.

Barnes & Noble are pretty good, would be high on my list but only just above 50%.

I got lucky this semester. Out of my three classes. One is a paper where I have to explain the function of every system on a 727-100QC. Another is a take home final.

Only my Accounting class is there a real test, that is the one I am most worried about, Test is Wendsday, There is a review Monday. I think I will be ready.

the Maultaschen will be my reward Big grin

Too bad my Grandmother was from up around Frankfurt. We never had this stuff when I was a kid. Only learned about it when I got over there in 1992.

Borders and Barnes & Noble top the list.

Building 19. It's a small chain in Massachusetts that literally sells stuff that fell off the back of a truck. Actually, I think they got their start by purchasing stock from write-offs, i.e. a warehouse flood, a semi jack-knifes, etc.; and they swoop in and offer cash for the haul, sight unseen. Most of the stuff they sell is crap, but you wouldn't believe the treasures I've picked up for a few bucks. Found a marvelous set of German carving knives, picked up a beautiful Kilim rug for less than $100 bucks. It's a great place.

Unfortunately, I have a Best Buy card, so anytime I go in, I end up buying a DVD, CD, computer game/component, video game, etc.

There are more than a few stores i have this problem in...especially the House OF Guitars...the worlds largest music store. They have all kinds of crap there, especially CD's (over 4 million in stock), that are hard to find. I only stop there near payday!  Big grin

KROC's mom's house.

No, seriously, Barnes and Noble, the bike store (I'm constantly tinkering with my mountain bike), CompUSA, Wegmans (possibly the best supermarket in the world), and the Stupid and Pointless Little Survey store.

-Recreation Equipment Incorporated, (REI)
-The local pilot shop (especially if they sell Jepp plates)
-The local golf shop (they've got my brand)

LHMark, It's good to see a fellow mountain biker. Is their some good ridin' in New York? Personally, I'm on a "can't replace it unless I break it" policy for new bike parts. It would be cool to get a new front suspension though (I have a fondness for hardtails) I guess I'll just have to break it.

Normal, there's some good singletrack 40 miles south of ROC in Letchworth State Park. I'm planning a multi-day trip in the Adirondacks, as well. I hear the riding up there is really amazing and unspoiled.

I use my bike as a daily commuter whenever the weather allows, so I've kitted it out for city riding with lights and mirrors and stuff. Drivers here are pretty hostile to pedal power.

That's one of the reasons I chose a hardtail. All that up and down translates to wasted motion when you're riding to work. I have a Rock Shox Judy up front, and that's good enough for me!

Hmm... Sounds pretty cool. I'll have to check it out once I get settled in at BOS. I'm used to the western style of riding though -- Dry, hot, dusty, and high altitude, but not as technical. I'll probably have to adjust my technique. How about Mass? Any good riding there?

Jeez, I imagine that northern Mass, NH, and Maine have some nice coastal rides. What I really want to do is bike in Bavaria, south of Munich. They have an awesome trail system and actively encourage biking. Add in the scenery and the best beer in the world, and it's a party.

Clothes stores seem to do it for me lately. And whenever I go to Agenda Bookshop, I can never leave without an airliner magazine. My obsession with Agenda goes as far as having applied for employment there the day before yesterday.

For my dad, it seems to be Tal-Lira, a Maltawide chain selling extremely low quality products, pick whatever you want for Lm1. Whenever we pass by one, I try to keep dad out because we really don't need any more rubbish at home!

I can resist most temptations but I can not make it out of Roses Deli without getting something. I have been so tempted to buy when I go to Powells Books too. I don't know their web address, but if you ever want a book, try there. If you come to PDX, they are located on NW 10th and Burnside and give yourself about 2 to 4 hours depending on how into books you are!

Target and Best Buy... I always end up with something when I leave that place. Of course, now that I am carless it is harder to do that. So the trips are now planned and purchases intentional.

I don't have a problem with bookstores, I just don't like em. Must be related to my oversion to libraries. So, again, I only go when I need something.
