Does Anyone Own An RX7?

Sat Apr 26, 2003 12:30 pm

I'm going to be importing a Mazda RX7 series 4 turbo 5 speed manual in the next couple of weeks and was just wondering if anyone else has ever owned one of these cars? This will be my first rotary and i'm looking forward to it. I've heard many things about rotaries, and that as long as you look after them e.g change oil every 3,000km's they should last as long as a piston engine. I'm trying to source one with low kays on it(under 100,000km's) and in good overall condition. My previous car was a Nissan 180SX turbo and i'm wondering if the RX turbo will be faster? I hope so  Smile

The only advice I can give you... is find a good mechanic who knows how to work on rotaries. You might get lucky and find a guy with an independent shop, but you might be better off talking to a service writer at your local Mazda dealership to see if he knows a guy or two. It would be worth its weight in gold.

What year is the car? I am assuming it has the turbocharged 13B motor.

So why not a newer RX8? I think the RX8 will be a better car (not faster than
the late RX7´s) with better reliability. As for things you can do with the RX7 is that there´s apex seals in ceramic (expensive though) that last longer and new exhaust in rust-free steel (cooling was a problem with the RX7).
Best of luck with your Mazda RX, wish I had one...

Well i would love an RX8 the only problem is $$$$$$. The RX7 will be a 1988 model with the 13B turbocharged motor yes. I'm going to get it pretty cheap- approx $9,000 Australian landed, registered etc. and it's going to have only like 60-70,000k's on it. It will be a series 4. I would like a series 5-which first came out in 1989 however there are new rules in place here that don't allow you to import a car unless it is 15 years or older, so i'll have to stick with the '88 model, same shape as the series 5 though.
