HS Seniors: Where Are You Going To College?

Mon Apr 28, 2003 3:40 am

Hello,

There are a lot of graduating 12th graders on the forums and by this point many have made up their minds regarding what college to attend, so I was wondering where everyone is going next year...I am going to the University of Colorado at Boulder...

VUT in Brno, Czech Republic.

And I bet you all that if I don't decide to leave myself after one year there, I'll get kicked out of the door by teaching staff.

I will be 75 miles from you AC320 and about an hour from any future ERAU students. I'm going to Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL, and the Delta Connection Academy at Craig Airport- which is 6 miles from campus- for flight training as part of my major in Flight Operations and Aviation Management.

Probably going to either Southern Danish University or Aalborg University. I have my mind set on either social studies, political or economic studies, so I'll probably end up on finding a combination of the three.

As for the military - we have the draft going, but I was told that I didn't have to bother showing up. My damaged hearing is going to keep me out.

SJC>sfo, Alot of my friends from high school goes to UVA in Charottlesville, VA. But this one particular girl, if you ever meet, ugh....we call her satan in our senior year, haha.

Greg, freshman year I lived in Libby. The basement of Libby. Probably the worst room on the entire campus. Will Vil is nice...the only real downside is that it isn't on campus. On Campus, the Kittridge complex isn't too bad, neither is Farrand. And theres always the engineering dorms, which are comparitively good if you're into studying. I'm sure you'll like Will Vil though...everyone on campus swears that they'd hate it, but everyone who lives there loves it.

I love the size of the campus, except when theres a foot and a half of snow on the ground and I have a 15 minute walk to get to my next class. Other than that its great, lots of neat things to look at, lots of open space.

We'll have to climb the flatirons or something once you get out here.

jderden777, thats cool you are going to JU. What made you decide to go there? I chose because of the major that combines an aviation business degree and flight instruction, and the 97% hiring rate into the airlines upon grad from Delta Connection Academy, plus its the only major airline owned school in the nation. I also have relatives there and go 1-2 times a year, so i know the place pretty well. Did you go to the Scholarship competition in February or the JU Experience Live weekend earlier this month? I went to the Scholarship competition but not JUEL, might have seen you if you went. What is your flight block at Craig? I fly Tues-Thurs-Sat from 7-9am. well cya this fall, we will meet up sometime.

Deltajax,
I also go to JU...and I convinced derden to come down here. LOL. Wasn't a tough sell though, with our airline-owned flight program and all. We know each other from home (endless hours of spotting Dash-8's and ATR's as well as yearly treks to places like DFW and MIA)

I work in the admissions office, too. I helped out with JUEL and S.C. How did you do in the scholarship competiton?

JBirdAV8r- I was awarded a $10,000 per year university scholarship, up from the initial offering of $7,000, from the scholarship competition, plus an additional $2,500 a year as a JU Grant. The rest of my aid package is workstudy and loans. How are you paying for your flight instruction? Thru PLUS loans? Thats what I am probably going to have to do. Are you in the aviation frat? anyways see ya this fall.

Deltajax,
congrats on the scholarship competition! i was there at JU for both the competition in feb. and JUEL earlier this month...i got the $10k university thing, up from the $7000 "trustees" scholarship that they originally gave me...too bad they didn't combine the two :-( but i'll have to do loans, which is alright with me, interest rates are pretty low now....

i was convinced to come to JU both by jon (jbirdav8r) and for the many, many benefits of flying through the delta connection academy...can't wait to non-rev on Delta all over the place, eh jon?  Big thumbs up

will you be entering the program with any ratings or certificates? i'm working on my private right now, hopefully to finish up before summer and then do instrument...i'll see ya around this fall!

Jderden777, no I havent done any flight training other than Flight Simulator 2002 Pro. I will be going for my private pilot this fall. You have to wait till you are an instructor to non-rev, right? That will be cool. I thought they were gonna combine the $7k with the $10k as well, I actually called them cuz the 7k didnt show up on the package they sent me and I thought they combined, oh well. wish I coulda gone to JUEL but im in Nevada and flying to FL twice in 6 weeks would be hard to fit in. cya on campus.

It seems like there's a lot of graduating seniors here.

College will probably be the best 4 yrs. of your life while you're getting an education, meeting new people, accepting challenges all while you're bettering yourself to be polished and educated member of society.

You worked hard for it, so soak it up, enjoy it, study hard, party hard and make the most of your college education.

Good luck to you all.

I'll be attending the United States Air Force Academy next year. It's mad nice, and I'm really excited, plus it's free and they pay you to go to school. Can't get much better than that!

What year are you? I'm pretty familiar with the whole application process and all, and it really can be confusing at times... IF you have any questions, by all means go ahead and ask em either here or e-mail!
