I can see these responses

Those that make a lot will say nothing (why should they)
Then there are those that who make little will probably over inflate it to boost their egos
Then those that will be honest.

So about what percentage will be true  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I make about $2400 (after taxes) during the 3 summer months so I guess thats 800 a month. I don't have to pay bills or anything else so it's plenty for me.

I don't work during the school year.

Well, most of us on here at least have one - or have our parents to pay for our upkeep. I pity the poor sods out there who are out of work with no prospects. I see this guy who hangs out on the sidewalk in downtown DC begging who claims to have been a computer programmer. I never believed him before, but now I do. Enough to give him a few bucks for coffee when I pass him.

David b.,
please, quit the whining.

Before taxes, I would earn (in this month) around 1800 dollars/1600 €. However, after my 40% tax (and various other things, such as Union fees, pensions etc.) I'm down to around 1066 dollars/970 €.

On the other hand, I'll also get free healthcare, free schools, free libraries etc  Laugh out loud

Mx5_boy,

Kerry Packer (Australia's richest man A$9 billion) once said: "If you don't minimise your taxes you are a bloody idiot."

Anyway back to the topic at hand.

"Poll: Your Monthly Income". Some people consider this pretty rude. I don't tell people how much money I make. If people want to say how much they make then good luck to it. But really - who cares?

Pretty pointless asking how much people earn. Any kind of reaction to a person based on their income is shallow and rude.

(And I know I didn't have to respond to this post but I feel strongly).

So what constitutes the highest 10%? and it's 47.5c in the dollar over $65K.

and if Packer wasn't so busy minimising his taxes the rest of us may be able to pay less  Angry

Typical socialist response. The richest man in Aus shouldn't have to pay any tax, given the wealth he has generated for Australia.

Perhaps as a government worker you could increase your productivity to the level of the private sector.....then the Aug govt could cut taxes since there would be fewer govt workers.

I really can't complain about fed taxes. After doing taxes and calculating deductions and credits, I end up paying around 4% for the year after refund.

But here is a breakdown of my deductions each check:

Federal tax: 10.0%
Soc. Sec. tax: 5.7%
Medicare tax: 1.4%
Indiana State tax: 3.0%
Allen county tax: 0.9%

Voluntary deductions:
Dental: 0.8% (covers 5 family members)
Medical: 5.4% (covers 5 family members)
Vision: 3.5% (covers 5 family members)
Supp. Life child: 0.0% ($.13)
Supp. Life spouse: 0.1%
Supp. Life self: 0.3%
401k Retirement: 3.0%

Take home: 73.3%

Since you asked, you're right....I don't like socialists. Socialism (and it's ugly brother Communism) is the biggest wealth-destroying concept man has ever created. Perhaps when you become an adult & start paying taxes in Germany and are appalled at the high level of taxation....you can thank Russia for impoverishing East Germany with socialism....which you now have to pay for. Have a ball.

Well, since you know so much about how Russia empoverished East Germany with socialism, you might also look at how capitalism empoverishes those people who've lost their money at the stock market, lost their wealth because they live in Malaysia/Thailand/Indonesia, those Indian farmers who can't make a living because nobody thinks their products are "stylish" anymore...

Thing is, you needn't pick on ADG and her "typical socialist response"s every time she posts something. We know you don't like her...  Insane

And as for "The richest man in Aus shouldn't have to pay any tax, given the wealth he has generated for Australia": Why shouldn't he? He's an Australian citizen, enjoying Australian amenities, electing Australian politicians, letting Australian Dollars earn his living... Why shoul he not be paying Australian taxes, while people like our forum Aussies should?

i cant see why this should be rude. to know the income of people of different professions around the world is an interesting topic.

i think there is a natural urge to compare oneself with others on important dimensions. and income is certainly an important dimension. it is also important to judge whether the own income is fair.

you say that one should not consider income when reacting to people. but you typically respond to many features that are correlated with income (beauty, clothing and the like).

Since I'm 54 and have 33 years of teaching experience + a graduate degree, I'm maxed out on the salary schedule (around 59K). I drive a school bus for normal school days and then for evening and Saturday field trips adding another 11K. Then, I was blessed enough to marry a dental hygienist who works on commission. She brings home more than I do and she only works 3 days a week.

My check to the IRS was $2770 this year.

Depends on how far I drive and how many days I'm on duty. It's more than enough for not having any other expenses, that's for sure. My only debt is my student loan, and that's already better than any car payment.

Because the wealth he creates generates significant tax income for the govt on its own.

What wealth does he create?!? He IS wealthy, he doesn't have to create any more wealth! If you're referring to the taxes he pays when buying things - everybody does so; and comparing, say, a million Australians to him would give you info about how much wealth focused on one person generates how much consume... Rich people didn't get rich spending their money.

The majority of wealthy in North America are self-made millionaires. You have to spend money to make money.

Stretch...our group has picked up about seven new accounts in the last year--so were still in growth mode. I had four associates last year--now i'm looking at getting another five. My goal is still to make full partner by 32 (yes, very ambitious--I'm junior partner now at 29)

Right now we're spending a lot of time on contractual matters with shipyards and with licensing agencies such as Lloyds, DNV, etc--which is boring. Gimme a good oil spill anyday! <---kidding, of course. The hard part is that our group is fully 50% travel which does not bode well with established atty's and those with new families.

I've also been doing trial for major malpractice in the last two years because one of the senior partners thinks I have a certain penchant for trial work (he is right...). I'm sure I don't have to differentiate to you the difference between PI and malpractice (for most the posters its the same).

But you're right...I haven't had a forty hour week in about five years!

Wow, again you show us you know jack about our country and it's people.

Perhaps as a government worker

I'm not a "government worker".

you could increase your productivity to the level of the private sector.....

Oh, I see .. not only do you misrepresent my position you infer that the public sector don't work as hard as the private sector showing your clear lack of understanding of not only my country, it's economics and now it's people.

then the Aug govt could cut taxes since there would be fewer govt workers.

Might work that way where you are ... but you're simply voicing misinformation.

If you want to stalk someone and comment on all they say, you might like getting your facts straight ...

I too am interested in your knowledge of Packer, Australia and it's economy.

EA CO AS,

Consulting and technical sales. Not only you must be MCSE certified, but you have to be adept at sales. Pain in the ass job. The pays good, but not only do I have to do the install and implementation, but I got to sell the damn thing too.

And at the moment were not hiring.

Just a little more money I can afford to buy a 330xi and take European delivery, now that would be fun.
