Speaking of works that are in movies and such ;
I performed in a Choral/Orchestral concert and right before intermission the Orchestra played Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. It's the song playing at the end of 'Platoon' where the one character is running across the field getting shot and the rest of the platoon is lifting off in choppers.
It is also played in the films 'Elephant Man' and 'Lorenzo's Oil' It was also performed at the deaths of presidents Roosevelt and Kennedy.
It was indescribably beautiful to hear performed live.
If anyone is interested after Intermission we performed "Dona Nobis Pacem" by Ralph Vaughn Williams. I don't think the music in "Dona Nobis Pacem" is as great as the Adagio for Strings, but the text is remarkable, and the music does a good job of following the text. If anyone wants me to post the lyrics I will.
