O'Reilly Gets Drudged Over Rush

Fri May 09, 2003 7:40 am

Or, in the Fox News vocabulary, "WHEN CONSERVATIVES EAT THEIR OWN!"

--
HTTP://WWW.ALLACCESS.COM

WESTWOOD ONE's BILL O'REILLY tells the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS' DAVID HINCKLEY that MATT DRUDGE's reports claiming that his radio show is losing badly to RUSH LIMBAUGH come from "being fed information by a powerful person or persons to make me look bad. There is a plan to destroy my program for the benefit of these people, and he is carrying it out to the letter. I don't have time now to investigate exactly what's going on, so even though it makes me furious, there's nothing I can do about it. Someday I will find out. I know if any other journalist did what he does, he'd be fired." O'REILLY says he's on 352 stations and has increased ratings in his time slot on over 70% of those stations.

The fact remains O'Reilly is trying to compete with Rush, very bad move, if he had a slot prehaps before or maybe after Rush he would be doing better. But a slot that competes with Rush puts him at a disadvantage.

I don't know which one I'd turn off faster-Rush or Bill. Bill is a little more refined that Rush, but he's a stuck-up snot. Rush isn't really mean to anyone who calls him, but he's one of those idiots who everything since the dawn of man that has been wrong has been Bill Clinton's fault, and everything good that's happened has been by the graces of the GOP.

Maybe they could both bitch themselves off the air.  Smile

Is Rush on TV? How is O'Reilly such a big competitor with him?

Contrary to popular rumor, I don't listen to AM radio and I've never heard Rush in my life, although I have watched the Definately Not A No-Spin Zone O'Reilly before.

I like O'Reilly. I don't hang on every word he says but I feel he exudes much common sense. Also, O'Reilly is neither an avowed conservative nor a Republican.

Ironically, O'Reilly is much the same as you, Alpha 1 and Heavy Metal, as he seems to draw his own conclusions on many issues and isn't locked by idealogy to a narrow set of conclusions.

Except for a smart guy, he sure had trouble figuring out why we went to war with Iraq, using the administrations excuse du jour on his show...finally settling on the "Saddam gasses his own people - if you don't support this effort then you'd most likely have sat idly by while Jews were being slaughtered in Europe". And his references to French and Germans as "weasles" doesn't make him look real great either.

As Sherm POtter would say, "bull cookies". He's beholden to the far-right, and that's evident in everything he says. He's a right-wing nut. And his conclusions are as narrow as anyone can be and still claim any amount of sanity.

What O'Reilly gains in independence (FDX is right...he does occassionally go "off message" from the right wing line, particularly about gay issues), he alas loses in crassness. In a perfect world, "Shut up and let the guy finish" would be the one line Billy Boy hears the most.

That says, I'll give him credit for at least having people who oppose him on. In addition to 'no guests' (oh, an occassional 'safe' neocon here & there), Rush Limblow lives in a carefully crafted right-wing netherworld where intelligent people who disagree with him are meticulously screened out from ever coming close to his phone monitor. (that's true. The screeners peg smart, outspoken libs and keep them off the air. Plus, they actually have a computer that remembers...and blocks...the caller in the future.)

O'Reilly is a troll and is not a conservative. He cares about himself, his ego, and his ratings. Nothing more.

O"Reilly doesn't have a mind. He's about as intellectual as Hitler on crack. Along with most media types that love the sound of their own voices so much that it's hard to see how they breathe, he's the very definition of an asshole. Journalism used to mean something much more noble than what you get on US TV these days. No analysis, no compromise, no middle ground...you either see it the way the talking head sees it or you get labeled as an idiot. O'Reilly leads the pack. Most snivelling libs not far behind either. Someday Americans may awake from their stupefaction and realize their best interests have been hijacked by a government so corrupted by PAC money they can't get over themselves or their own straightline party agendas. Or we just go the way of Rome.

How about a real ratings bonanza - Lumbaugh/O'Reilly Debate Each Other! It would be the penultimate "reality" TV show (not to mention, a real hoot to watch them try to kill each other and "out-conservative" each other)!

I'm curious to hear what his particular extreme right wing views are.

O'Reilly is by no means an intellectual, yet I don't think he portrays himself as one. I would have to think many media talking head have a rather enlarged ego to feed, after all it's "show biz".

To be honest, having heard his show on the radio a couple of times, I don't view him as a true conservative.

I tend to belive that label is put on him by left wingers who don't like being targeted by him.

I don't view him as a true conservative.

A "true" conservative. You mean he doesn't take the pills everyday, or what?

How many "issues" does a man have to veer "off message" on and not stay in lockstep with the rest of the troopers to cease being a "true conservative"? 1? 2?

And he's called "conservative" by liberals because....guess why? He ain't a liberal.

Every day I realize more and more how much of America is culturally and idealogically to the left of today's "true conservatives". doesn't mean they're libs. They're just solidly leftward of the right wing agenda. And that gives me hope. Lots of it.

Only in your own mind.

Anyway it is a hell of a lot better then the left wing message, You don't have to work for anything, The government will provide for your needs, You have no reason to actually accomplish anything. Just give us all your money that you may have saved, to actually pay for all of these programs.

The left wing message.... coming from a right winger. If the conservative version of liberalism were actually true, hell, I'd be a Shepard Smith suckhole too.

The latest liberal "agenda" I see are...

1. War is not the first best solution to foreign policy issues.
2. Our global reputation has been earned by six decades of benevolent decency, not cowboy extremism, and is being pissed away in buckets by this Administration.
3. The tax system is hopeless...and hopelessly weighted to favor A) people who can afford nifty accountants and B)people who can afford buying politicians to write tax law for them.
4. Giving millionaires the cash to buy new Hummers isn't the first best way to economic revival. Targeting middle class families works better. Better for investment. Better to pay down personal debt. Better for stimulus.
5. America's national debt is not just a "whatever" figure in a GAO report.
6. White collar criminals who loot the economy with their fraud should go to prison. Not 'pay fines'.
7. Let's worry about Homeland Defence on the actual borders of our homeland. Not in some "suspected" WMD location in Iraq...that happens to have 400,000 SUV gas tanks worth of oil under it.
8. Welfare is wrong. Corporate, that is. Corporations make more in one year off the government than a hundred generations of 'welfare queens'. And, as is evidenced by the stock market, it ain't going back to the shareholders.
9. When you mix religion and governance, you get Iran. Plain & simple. You get Israel, such a warm, safe place. Let's stop our sprint into theocracy quickly.
10. Let's elect a President smart enough to run the country himself. Not leaving it to a half dozen unelected 'advisors' who put their careers & agendas before the national interest.

Just a thought, El. Of course, if you're listening to Limbaugh or reading Drudge, there's no place for this message. It's just to rational. And while O'Reilly at least gives this message some time to speak itself, the speaker usually gets cut off halfway through #1.

Hmmm...run the country himself..........you mean........like a dictater?

Oh, you mean smart enough.....like Jimmy Carter........oops. Smile

Well, 9/11 and the security of the U.S. will have to take precedence over benevolence for the time being. I don't view G.B's actions extremist at all, though unpleasant, very necessary.. Though mistakes were made, it wasn't exclusively the U.S. who made them. I'd say many countries have pissed away their reputations, which in fact would put us all on level ground to hug and make up.

You've bought Bush's propoganda, I see that, FDX. Our safety and security shouldn't mean that we treat the rest of the world like our own personal outhouse, does it? Does that mean when allies have differences with us, we treat them like the dregs of the earth simply because they have honest disagreements with us? Does that mean we ignore what the rest of the world thinks?

We can keep our security and act like something other than a cornerside bully, don't you think? Or would you rather us treat everyone else like shit, jsut because we have the biggest gang on the street?

Though mistakes were made, it wasn't exclusively the U.S. who made them. I'd say many countries have pissed away their reputations, which in fact would put us all on level ground to hug and make up.

Yes, but the others, for well or ill, made "mistakes" on the side of trying to avoid war, while on our side, Mr. Bush seemed anxious to shed blood to forward the neoconservative blueprint of flexing muscles.

FDX...

You didn't hear me or practically anyone else bemoaning Bush's military response to 9/11....the invasion of Afghanistan. It was right and proper and executed flawlessly....at the start, anyway. It's been allowed to degrade into a hopeless mess.

No sir, our bulls**t detectors started ringing last summer when truly evil people like Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz were allowed to quietly start depositing the massive capital of national unity & goodwill in their own little agenda accounts. And suddenly, The Fraud Minister, Karl Rove, discovered that deep fear is an almost endless canopy of shade underwhich to conduct the most vile of business out of the light of day.

That was the start of an extremist rockslide that has combined the most powerful military, the most powerful political party and the most effective propaganda machine these United States have ever seen into a very narrow agenda built solely by the right, the righteous and the rich...FOR the right, the righteous and the rich. Our democracy dies every day this man is President, in favor of an unrepentant oligarchy that wraps its' unAmerican, self serving intentions in patriotism and photo ops, while education, jobs and prosperity wither away.

O'Reilly, Drudge, Limbaugh.....they're all part of the same rockslide. Do we make this country better, or do we get rich & powerful by any means possible, including national self-immolation?

This is the Age of the Alpha Male. The pathetic answer is obvious.

Alpha, I agree with you on many posts and disagree on some as well. But even the ones where we are polar opposites, I've enough respect for your intellegence not to accuse you of being a victim of propaganda.

I agree with much of what Bush is doing, yes. Yet I'm sure others in position of authority, whether here, abroad, or the worldwide media hold the same opinion as you. Yet I would not accuse you of buying their propaganda. I might feel your opiniuon misguided and present my case, that's honest debate.

I think in the end, Bush's policy will do more to secure a real peace, bring real security and provide the Palestinians with a homeland than you might care to think. It's happening already.
