Can I Get From LaGuardia To Manhattan?

Thu May 15, 2003 4:04 am

Hey all. I'm looking at summer trips for, well obviously, this summer. Only problem is I'm not old enough to rent a car. My question is if I flew into LaGuardia is it relativly easy to get to Manhattan using public transport? Also, got any other ideas for good cities to visit? Boston is on top cause of the ease from getting BOS to downtown. Thanks guys.

Cab is the easiest, but there are buses that go to the Port Authority bus terminal. I'm not the expert, though.

I'd like to avoid cabs if possible, just cause I don't want to pay 50 bucks to go 6 miles.

I took bus line M60 from LGA to 125th Street/ Lennox Ave and changed to subway line 2/3 in order to go downtown. Didn't encounter any problems both ways.

A cab ride to Midtown Manhattan will cost you about $28.00. A water shuttle ride (go over to the Delta Shuttle terminal) to Midtown Manhattan will cost you about $22.00. You can also take the subway from LaGuardia (I believe you have to take a short shuttle bus ride to connect), but it's a long ride into the city that way.

I always took the Q33 from LGA into the city. It's about a 15 mintue ride to the end of the route, 74th St-Jackson Heights subway station. That bus runs pretty frequent. On the subway, you have many choices to get to Manhattan, E/F express, R/V local or 7 train. The 7 train is elevated and gives a great view of the city. I'd either take the E/F or 7, if I were you. The 7 train runs to Times Sq, the E runs to Chambers St dowtown (where the WTC was) via 8th Ave and the F runs via 6th Ave.

There is a shuttle to Grand Central Terminal if you are going to catch a train up north.

I'm not sure what the name of the company is.

You can also go to http://www.supershuttle.com and pay about $15-$19 to share a shuttle van from LaGuardia to anywhere in Manhattan.

My parents prefer to hire Leros Limousine Service ( http://www.yellowpages-ads.com/01067610 ) going to/from their home in Westchester County.

N766UA:

Take the M60 from your terminal. This bus goes into Manhattan and will get there in about 20 minutes from LGA. Basically, it runs across 125th street, where you can transfer to the 1/2/3/4/5/6/9/A/B/C/D trains which will all take you downtown (you will have to get off at the appropriate avenue for depending what train you take)...
In total, it should take you 45minutes to an hour to get to midtown from LGA by this method, and will only cost $1.50. Cab will be like 25 minutes, but will run you about $25...

Correction: It will now cost him $2. But I recommend this option as well.

In response to the title:

No. It is completely impossible to get from La Guardia to Manhattan.

TWFirst:

Actually, a judge today ordered the MTA rollback the fares to $1.50 after finding the MTA deliberately deceived the riding public of deficits and figures. The MTA now has two weeks to rollback the fares, but then again, this is the MTA, so they'll probably drag this out, and we'll never see the fare lowered...
But in any case, the judge ordered it, so we'll see....
