Sleekjet Is Slithering Away

Wed May 14, 2003 11:47 pm

Guys: I've reached the noble conclusion that my posts are doing nothing but tossing gas on the fire. I'm not convincing you of anything nor am I seeing much merit in the responses I'm getting from you. Many of you are excellent at give-and-take, making me think you need to hang out your shingle (Heavymetal, Attorney-at-Law). My role in life as a Christian is to influence folks toward Christ, and obviously, my approach here isn't working.

This is not a criticism of my detractors as much as it is a statement of reality.

So in the future, I'll limit my comments to topics that have nothing to with religion, homosexuality, or moral issues. If we need to discuss the best seat on an American Airlines 757, I'll chime in.

Thanks for your efforts, gentlemen, and for causing me to reflect deeper on my convictions...one has to do this when defending one's positions. I look forward to discussing cars, stereo systems, weather, and the like with you in the future.

I've been "online" since 1994 and I have never figured these types of posts out. So what if you're leaving? Trying to stoke your ego by hoping people beg you to stay is silly. If you feel so strongly that you need to leave...BYE BYE.

Sleek--

You always have an ally in me, brother. But sometimes it is hard to tell when God really is calling us to speak, or if His work is for someone else. I have learned that sometimes letting things "fly by" is better than trying to get involved, even though I do believe that many times we do need to take the heat.

Glad you'll still be around--

Sleekjet, perhaps your error was in trying to convert, preach or influence others. You'll have much more success if you try to inspire people by your actions and thoughts. You can't change a person, only they themselves.

Dang, there were @ least 5 or 6 posts in here deleted since I looked at it 1/2 an hour ago.

Anyway. Sleekjet, if I were you, I wouldn't quit posting my opinions and beliefs because a few loud mouths don't like them or respond with anger and flaming. Your opinions should be allowed as much as anyone else's. There are a few people here who scream about freedom of speech but define "free speech" as only speech they agree with. Ignore them and keep posting whatever you want as long as it doesn't violate the rules. I know I won't stop posting because some people here like to whine and flame because I say stuff that "offends" them.

Good. I hope you take the time to think about your moral high horse, and maybe get off of it?

Sleekjet, I'm wondering if the responses you've gotten have caused you to reflect more on your approach to people. My experience has been that you judge others rather harshly, are inflexible and make others wrong with your so-called "Christian" moral standards and ethics.

I really never post about morality, ethics, or anything real controversial here, because people on here have such one track minds. It is impossible to have a descent discussion about a lot of things, without people either calling names, getting defensive, or acting very juvenile. I stopped posting about most current events a long time ago.

B757300:

From my original thread:

This is worth repeating and also applies to A330 and the other clueless posters in this thread.

Ok, after reading that I doubt if I could have responded with an educated answer.

Sleekjet,

I think Hepkats word of wisdom are *exactly that*.

It's easy to be harsh or critical - but sometimes it helps to *listen* and try and understand others views even if you don't agree with them.

Huh? I dont know what that is about. Actions and thoughts? Dude, this is the internet, not real life, I dont think Joe Blow sitting at his computer 5000 miles away is able to see the way Sleekjet leads his life.

Good luck, Sleekjet. Although, I dont necessarily agree with your religion, I agree with the message of morality you were trying to put across (most times).

At least I can say this about you....you spoke what was on your mind.

Thanks for your efforts, gentlemen, and for causing me to reflect deeper on my convictions.

If this is truly what has happened, then it would be a tragedy for it to cease.

My role in life as a Christian is to influence folks toward Christ, and obviously, my approach here isn't working.

Then I would suggest that your 'approach' is far less Christian than your heart.

Your not the first person to suggest I become a lawyer. But if I did, I'd be paid to believe in someone else's story. I can only speak for my own.

As a fellow Catholic (marrying a Jew), I sympathize with you to an extent.

As I read your words, I understood your point. Yet I think perhaps it sounds a bit condescending  Innocent? Perhaps rude to Jews or non-Christians?

I dunno, just my observation.

Godspeed.

Try what Jesus said: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", Sleekjet, and you might be seen as a better Christian, Sleek.

Alpha 1, considering how you and some others on this forum belittle other users and attack people, I think you very much apparently don't care about being treated very nicely by other people.

Sleekjet, I've come to the exact same conclusion. Arguing with them is useless and doesn't accomplish what we should be working towards.

MD90, if you want to pat the back of a homophobe, that's fine with me, I don't really care.

I belittle very few on here. I do call them like I see them, which you seem to think is some sort of sin. I think you're a hypocrite, as are people like Jcs, B757300 and Sleek on such issues as have been discussed. You expect everyone to respect you, but, in turn, you seem to think no one else deserves respect.

As for me, I'm not on here to curry respect or favor, but to let my views be known. I'm sorry if you have a problem with that.

Alpha1, keep talking out of your ass, chief. I am not even religious and you are comparing me to MD90 and Sleekjet?! I support some of their views, others I dont support....I mean, how many times do I have to say that? Alpha1, you and your liberal ilk believe that one is not to be respected unless they have liberal views. Without liberal views, one is branded a racist, a homophobe, and a redneck. Its the same old bullshit.

Alpha1, you and your liberal ilk..

To paraphrase what you said above, Jcs: I'm not part of the liberal ilk, Jcs. How many times do I have to say that?

Unfortunately, conservatives always like to drop the L-bomb on people they don't agree with.

Alpha1, you and your liberal ilk believe that one is not to be respected unless they have liberal views.

Really? Then tell me why I have immense respect for KROC, JetService and L-188? I do not always agree with them on domestic events, but I respect them because they are not so beholden to the far right that their head is stuck up their asses. They are conservative, but they also think for themselves, something that far to many nuts on the right don't seem to be able to do.

"[W]orking towards"? That's scary. Some sort of evil plan, no doubt.  Big grin

Seriously though, don't come here to convert people. That's just stupid. I come here to have enjoyable discussions with intelligent folks. I don't expect to say anything revolutionary.

Jcs17,

Here's what you do mate. Do a search on ""jcs17"" - now read just about every controversial post that you have made include threads. Re read again 40 minutes later then print them all out and tape them to your bedroom walls.
