Tue Jun 03, 2003 2:22 pm

Picked mine up a couple of weeks ago. Dose anyone else own/lease one? If so what do you think so far.

I don't know anyone who has one, but I know a couple of people who passed up on the 6 to get Accords and Camrys. One wanted Maxima, but couldn't justify the price-tag. He tested out the lot (Maxima, Accord, Camry, 6 and Altima) and had praises for the Maxima and Altima. Surprsingly, he wasn't overly impressed with the 6. He thought it was an average performer in the lot. Then again, he might have tested the four-banger, so you never know. One thing that's not helping 6's sales is the unknown resale value of the car. A lot of buyers in that range stress the importance of resale value, as well as reliability. 6 may just prove to be too adventurous of a choice for many in the market, imho.

Congrats on your purchase. I read lots of good reviews on your ride. What color? Post some pics~

My stepfather has one. He really likes it, but I don't have much more info. I'll ask him next time I see him.

I totalled my 96 Protege back in November. I was mulling over a new 03 Protege ES or the new 6, but the 6 wouldn't be available at my dealership until the end of November. So I broke down and took the Protege ES. The new car is awesome, considering I paid only $18K (the car has a lot of extras), but I always wondered if I would have waited a few more weeks and taken the new 6.

The car looks cool and the V-6 version has alot of power - plus the price beats out the Maxima and Accord (it's about the same as the Altima). And, generally, I heard good to great reviews on it. So enjoy and let us know how it is!

We have a law clerk that bought one.
It's a nice car for the money.
Better looking than most the stuff out there.
I've only been in the passenger seat...so no clue how it handles.
Appeared to have some reasonable pep when he hit the gas.

Does not have the ridiculously cheap looking Accord dashboard which should be enought to make up your mind!

Sorry Greg, the new Accord, although it has a big nasty ass, has a very high quality interior, better than the Mazda 6, or any Japanese competitor.

The Mazda 6 is very sharp looking, I have caught myself staring at the car a few times while driving on the highway, eventhough I should be paying attention to the road! I like the details of the design, very well thought out, very balanced.

The Protoge has been a very popular car, and I can see the 6 becoming just as successful. Mazda products are reliable, but it's too bad the V6 is a Ford design (not sure about the 4 cylinder).

From my understanding both of the engines are of Ford origin, but have been extensively reworked by Mazda engineers. It isn't like Ford makes bad engines... compared to Chrysler or GM, the Duratec and Zetec family of engines are pretty damn refined. If anything they are a marked improvement over the rather bland Mazda 4 and 6 cylinders they are replacing. Plus, if nothing else, the 6 is a HUGE improvement over the 626... which wasn't a bad car, it just wasn't great.

The most recent Autoweek Autofile does a test of the 6s, and as usual they make some comparisons to comparable models. Performance is, surprisingly, not class leading but rather middling or in the top tier in some categories. Build quality appears to be on par. Overall it isn't a bad choice IMHO. I would personally wait for the 5-door hatchback version that comes out in 2004.

One more thing, the 6 will be the basic platform for Ford's new mid-sized Futura and Mercury Montego. I find it odd that they did not use the new upsized Mondeo as the basis... but then again the 6 might be somewhat based on the Mondeo.

I don't know how well the Duratec and Zetec engines have fared, but other Ford engines, namely the 3.8 have been a disaster, especially a few years down the road, with very big and expensive failures. I assume like any company, they build good and bad products, but I am not too comfortable with Ford's engineering of major components.

The only negative I had heard about the V6 is that while it produces very strong numbers, it doesn't feel as strong as the numbers suggest. I would assume the torque curve isn't optimized. The handling, like some other Mazda products has been highly accaimed however. It's probably a better overall product than the Altima, although not quite up to Accord standards.

I'll disagree.....the firm has four new accords (2003) for the clerks to take to court and file briefs...since they are parked in our private parking area....we fudge a little and will take them to lunch since our cars are located in another garage that has some strict 'in/out' privledges.

The Hondas are real nice cars...but the wanna be German dash with the central radio knob looks like hell. Also, the plastic parts do not have the nice click and substantial feel of other cars (the best is probably Audi..although my Beemer will probably refuse to start now that I've said that). Also, if you look at the corners of the upholstery on the front seat fabric...it is not finished correctly where is meets the seat back. Its consistent on all four cars. Not what I would call a consistent level of quality.

Honda is a bit like Singapore Airlines.....it rests a bit too much on it's former reputation....and less on substance. If you look at the styling, it's clear that little imagination was used in the design and detail of the vehicle.

Greg, I can see what you are saying, but I think you are being a little picky. The Accord to me felt like it had a more substantial interior than any of its Japanese competition, and finally Honda is reaching the levels of VW, which is also in the same relative price class. The Honda is far better than it used to be in the interior. I had a ride in the Acura TSX and was very impressed with the interior, much better for instance than the TL.

I was looking at a 6 today, while my 02 MPV ES was in service. The 6 is a beautiful car, and I'd seriously consider it if I was rich enough. My MPV has a 3.0 V6, a Ford original, but apparently Mazda changes the heads, rods , and maybe some other stuff. I haven't heard any bad reviews at mpvclub.com, where I post now and then. My MPV is great after 17000 km, good quality, good service, and I would not hesitate to buy another Mazda.

Captaingomes,

LOL, I think the Honda Accord has a nice ass! Do you like the Accord Coupe any better? Personally I like the sedan's ass better than the coupe's. What does everyone else think?

Sorry Emirates, I must really disagree! The Accord sedan has a fat ass that looks like it's being flexed, which is a really bad thing! The coupe is very nice, but bland. However, it's just about as bland as the rear end of the Mercedes CLK, so it can be forgiven if only for that.

Compare the above to the nice, muscular looks of the Mazda 6. For a Japanese family sedan, simply breathtaking!

My big issue with the ass end of the new Accord is that is does not match the cat like front end. It all goes wrong with that incredibly odd C pillar line. From there on back it looks like it is a different car. As for the coupe it is ok, but bland like the cap'n said, think about the comparison to the CLK... what does that say about M-B's design staff. I much prefered the chisled end of the previous generation coupe.

At least the 6 has a single consistent design. But I still think the Altima still looks better with its cleaner lines. I still want to see what the hatchback model will look like.
