It's Too Hot!

Sun Jun 08, 2003 10:47 pm

Damnit, we just have the first week of June, and during the last 8 days, we have constantly had temperatures over 30° Celsius, with peaks up to 34° in the shadow and more than 40° in the sun. Where should this end? What kind of temperature do we have to expect in July and August? I'm feeling more like in Spain than in Germany...no wait, in Spain they have less than 30°. In New York they have chilling 17°, in London 17°, too. In Miami they have 29°, in Fuerteventura it's 24°, in Amsterdam 19°.

What have we done that we deserve to get fried?

Greets from Frankfurt, 32° Celsius in the shadow. At least there is a little cloud in front of the sun at the moment.

During the last day, max temp was 38°C here and min was 18°C, including the night. But it's raining at the moment, so it's no longer that bad. But I had to paint a balcony elsewhere during the last week, and there were no clouds and up to 42°C most of the time. 15 minuntes outside, 10 inside, 15 out, 10 in... Phew! At least, I want a little wind, but no chance...

Very nice during holidays, but I'm in the middle of my final exams and it's very annoying to study already 10 days with temperatures between 25 and 30°.

I just keep my french windows (err, Freedom windows) open 24/7. It keeps the apartment stable at about 20°C, although I couldn't have a lie in this morning/lunchtime thanks to a loud thunderstorm.

The lawn is growing about 50cm per day though  Smile

It sure hasn't been hot here. It's June, and by now, we usually have some temperatures around 80F/27F, but it's been cold, damp and just miserable here the last two to three weeks-temps around 65 every day; rain most every day. I know, it's Cleveland, but still!

Well, today, we have glorious sunshine finally! And the forcast for the week is temperatures between around 74 and 80 all week. Summer has arrived!  Big thumbs up

We'll be glad to share our summer with you, Alpha 1. Like 20 per cent for you, would that be fine?

SOLD!!!! Big grin

Actually, last summer was a scorher here. We normally average only 3 days in a summer where temperatures hit 90F/32C. Last summer, we did so over 15 times, and most of the time, the temp was in the mid and upper 80's here.

Summer of 1988 was the worst we've had in my lifetime: 41 TIMES, did we break 80F/32C, hit an all-time record high of 104F/40C. Hit 100 4 times that summer, including the day of the company picnic, when it was 102F.

Alpha 1's not kidding- it has been unseasonable here & summer's just creeping in. This isn't an Ohio summer! Looking at the forecast for this week, the number of 80 degree days reminds me of the frequency of seeing "L10" in Delta's timetables in 2001!

Last weekend, it felt like October or November (ironically, on the last weekend in the school year), and the only good thing about the cool weather is that we didn't bake at school.

And they talk about Global Warming....  Big grin

Not been too bad in the Midlands this week either. We've had a few downpours and right now we're in the middle of a little thunderstorm, but over the last couple of days we've had great weather!

For me it is not summer if temperatures does not exceed 40C.

I remember having seen a public thermometer in downtown Tunis showing 52C by 12:30 p.m.!!! Can you resist it ?

Thunderstorm here as well. Talk about weird weather; when I had lunch, the sky was blue with a few clouds. By the end of lunch, some droplets began to fall. After about five minutes, it got dry again. Then, rain again, dry again, and now the sky is dark gray, with heavy rain and strong wind. I wonder how it'll be like in half an hour.

Preach it 4holer!

Here in Phoenix, its been routinely 105-108 F every day for the past few weeks. Makes spotting at DVT or PHX a real treat.

Rather hot here in Geneva too but I like it.

Better than the usual Irish rain I live with for most of the year. Big grin

I'm loving the Cleveland weather this sunday. It so nice outside. Hmm now only if we could get rid of that lake so we won't have to deal with the humidity. Having the last two weeks feel like fall was nice though. Usually we'd be sweating half to death in school, but thats done with.  Smile

No such thing at too hot for me! It has been over 90F here in Portland for the last 4 days; 102 on Friday. Today is cloudy and we are expecting a cool 82F for the high. Fortunately, I have been working in the kitchen. Just give me some water, and I will gladly work when it is over 90!

Man, you think 32C is bad?

Look at Bengal where it's been around 50C everyday for the last 3 weeks!! 1200 people have died because of it.

Now that's hot!!

In Canada, we get in the 50's sometimes, but only on the negative end of the spectrum  Big grin

Try working in the 110 degree heat here in PHX during the mid-afternoon. I digress, I look forward to playing golf in the winter when it is mid 70s.  Smile

We've actually had two days of straight sunshine here in PHL (a first since it feels like its been raining here for about 3 weeks straight), and the temp is right around 85 degrees F. Too bad I'm at work!!!

Thinking of it, I'm heading for one of those as soon as I've sent this post  Smile/happy/getting dizzy  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Definitely! I much prefer winter because one can actually protect oneself against cold more effectively than against heat. My favourite months have to be January, February and March - nice and cool, the sun sets at a reasonable time and there's always a thrill when taking the ferry - for all you know, it might not operate!

Summer on the other hand is the season of constant heat, the sun setting at 9pm, 100% humidity, frequent headaches and diminished appetite.

How does 32ºC = 93ºF? Don't you take 3 and multiply it by the # of ºC? For instance today, my neighbour was driving and i switched her thermometer in the car to C. I took 3 and multiplied that by 28 = 84ºF. I switched back between ºF and ºC...

A good and already very hot morning from Frankfurt (that's FRA for all aviation freaks). Forecast announces 33 celsius today and heavy thunderstorms in the afternoon, tomorrow it'll be 36 Celsius, that's around 100 in Fahrenheit.

Fortunately our new building is extremely well airconditioned, 22 degrees to the spot, very nice and dry, no sweat. I guess that's why we are all currently working overtime Big grin Big grin Big grin

Unfortunately I'm travelling tomorrow and on Friday, that means dark suit and tie, and hopefully LH captains who know how to handle the aircon!!

Very very fortunately: After returning on Friday, my 2 week holiday starts, and no weather changes are announced....sun, water, here I come!!!!!!!!

If you are in classic music - we have this opera music film festival on city hall square during July and August.

Have you ever been here? Btw. for real hot days - we have not only the danube island.

I'm into classic music and nu jazz and ambient/club music, and Vienna does provide worldclass in all three categories, ok, in two, jazz is not that hot!!

I'm going to look up that website you've mentioned and see, what there is to see.

Yes I've been there, though it was a long time ago, when a girlfriend of mine lived there, and when it was hot, we went out to the Donaustrand, I liked that a lot...very lovely girls Big grin Big grin Big grin
