A New Tattoo - Any Tips?

Mon Jun 09, 2003 3:41 am

Heya guys!

As you can guess I've just got a new tattoo. I've got a couple but never one of the surround full bicep variety. Ouch!

It took 3 hours and lots of work but is still only 3/4 finished. Any tips from those of you who have had others or on what sort of pain I should expect on filling my under arm? The outline on my underarm was pretty *ouch* the rest is yet to happen.

Anyone who want's to see the designe can e-mail me.

Tatt people please give tips! lol

Why not get the one I very nearly got?

Matty,

I'm laughing!! lol Road Runner indeed. The design I got was of the gold ring I wear that I had designed as an original by a jeweller and myself.

It took hours just to get it where it is and I had to go home to meet friends. Oooeerss.. The underside of the arm is *sensitive* to say the least.

Even my tattooist said - "jeeze mate sure you've had enough for this evening?"
.

lol

He was a skinny NZ guy with a bakery down the road.

Any tattoo on the under part of your arm will hurt like a bitch. Mine did, yours will, and so will the next person's. Best thing to do is to just suck it up and press on.

Get drunk but go there before you start to drink and make sure they know exactly what you want, then go in drunk so it will numb the pain. That's what my bro did and he said it barly hurt.

Mine are on my forearm but I can imagine it would hurt a lot under the arm. It hurt a lot on that wrist-bone thing. Anywhere with bone or sensitive skin it will be bad, but like KROC said you have to just suck it up.

Don't forget to take time letting it heal. No direct sunlight, large amounts of water/soaking, and just LEAVE THE TAT ALONE!

No matter how crappy it looks with flakes of colored skin clinging to your arm, just leave them alone. Add more A+D or lotion, never EVER pick them off. I hate the whole healing process but I used Tattoo Goo for my last couple and it worked really well.

http://www.tattooz.net You can get some there.

Also even once they heal do keep out of direct sunlight or apply non-fade stuff (you can get that from the site also).

You may know all this anyway, but I like to put it out there just in case. A kid in my class once had just got a tat and he let it "heal" by just drying out and flaking off. It was black and red and in like 2 weeks it was grey and pink.

Tattoos are with you for life. Do take care of them as much as you can for the first couple weeks and even then the next couple months also.

We have a winner! A winner for the absolute most ignorant advice possible when getting a tattoo. Well done Max. I bet your brother isn't exactly at the deep end of the gene pool. Then again, you are actually passing this tidbit of info along as well.

Where is Matt D and his prize when you need it?

Kroc,

Um 3 hours later. Yeah it hurt like a rusty electric knife going under my arm! Bite it? Oooooeeerrsss. I did for like about 2 hours...

Anywho - I've been told a bottle of champers and 3 mercindol are the way to go.

Although, the Nike *just do it* thing is probably it.. At least I didn't just go and do one without thinking about it. I had a design and have stuck with it.

24 hours later and it's still OK.

Remember, booze will thin your blood out, and can lead to more than normal bleeding while getting your tattoo as well.

Guys,

Thanks again for your advice. I'm keeping it moist with Solugel. I've seen others who have not given a hoot about the healing process and they end up with a second rate job.

My only problem is hiding it with my business shirt. LOL Any ideas? I'm thinking of an ace bandage armband? Since it's on my bicep it will have to be flexible.

More metal is next - *piercings* - which will be so much easier. And not my tongue either - eeewww.

Kroc,

Booze and asprin or painkillers usually thin your blood. I'm well aware of that but have found non-prescription stuff that leaves you a bit numb for the duration without resorting to booze.

Sunday 6pm is for the final filling in of the design. I knew it was going to take a bit of time but I made sure before hand that I had a book, portable CD player and my cellpone. LOL The place where I had it done has cable TV and other such distractions. Any designs that are not on the wall are on a digital tv that people can flick through. Not a deadbeat joint in a red light district. LOL

Hoo Roo!

Mx. Don't cover your tattoo with anything, especially an ace bandage. That will hinder its ability to "breathe" which is key during healing. Wear dark color shirts and make sure you keep the healing ointment on it. At least coat it once before you get dressed, then coat it again after work. I'd forget all about covering it though, other than with your shirt.

Kroc,

Thanks again for the advice. I'm using breathable bandage material that is taped just above the tatt on my arm and the material doesn't stick but dangles past the tatt and hides it.

I only have 2 non-white business shirts. LOL

My super conservative English boss would freak - it's bad enough one of the girls has a tatt on her back that she inadvernantly *showed* at a work function.

*yay*

Ooooeers. Finally got the rest of it done. *ouch*

Bit the bullet and went in sober and sensible.

Was getting the navel pierced at the same time but the piercing people were way too busy. So I'll do it on the way home from work tomorrow night.

AA61hvy - Why don't you get a naked chick on your arm, because that is the closest you will ever get to some pussy.

777236ER - I'm not sure how you know how big my cack is, without saying the usual "Matt D/Arsenal/JCS/whoever" told me.

Kroc,

PA? No thanks - you have to sit down to 'p' after having that done.

I am getting the faux variety that doesn't go through the urethra - not sure what it's called. But it heals much quicker as well and isn't as painful.

Why get a tattoo? They are very stupid. To me, it shows that the person is 'NASCAR trash.' I'm not saying that you are, and yes you could say it's stereotypical. I would never get one, because almost everyone who gets one usually regrets it, especially when they are older!

I am not saying I disagree with you Continental as I would never get a tattoo, but it is your body and just as I have the right to leave my body untouched by tattoos, another person has the right to get his entire body tattooed.

Kroc,

It's a Freenum piercing - I'm just not "up" with all the correct terms for the multitude of varieties one can get their willy pierced. Let alone the others.

When I went to the piercing clinic (it's like a doctors surgery) to get some information most of those waiting for various piercings were people in business suits - except for one dude who had about 20 face piercings.

*ouch* + cold in winter.

Ahhh, okay. I know the Freenum piercing. Still though, I'm not adding any extra holes to my Johnson. I had the bright idea a few years ago to get my nipples done, and that was more than enough pain for me.

Okay, first nipple hurt like a son of a bitch! I was expecting the pain, but it might have been more than I was expecting. I did both at once, so the guy was like still want the other? I said yes, so he got it ready. Now at this point, your adrenaline is gone. The second one gets stabbed. WORST FUCKING PAIN EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It hurt about 10 times more than the first. I still to this day have not forgot the pain from that. I won't even get into the healing process, unless you want me too. I only still have mine in now, because I refuse to take them out after the pain I went through to get them, lol.

Kroc,

Hhhmm, my partner in crime insists it's quick and relatively painless. Having said that, this person had a piercing party where he invited friends to witness the event. (belly button only.. lol)

I have a choice. I can get these things done one at a time OR all at once.

LOL

If your crime dawg felt no pain in getting his nipples pierced, more power to him. All I know is when I had the second one done, it hurt like a bitch! At that point other than my tongue ring I had, that the military made me take out, I am sticking with tattoos. I'm about due for number 7 too.  Big grin

Tongue ring? Cripes Kroc - I really don't like those. Most of the people that I see who have them seem to 'flick the piercing' against their teeth. It bugs me and is kind of creepy - not to mention the damage it does to your teeth.

I don't beleive my mate 'Troops' for one minute that the nipple piercing will be a piece of cake. I suggested to a friend that I get local anaeth before getting them done and I was resolutely called a big woos. lol

What sort of tatt are you getting?

Anaeth for a piercing...and all he called you was a 'big woos'. You got off easy my friend!

My tongue ring was a flesh colored one (trying to keep it from the military, lol) and was basically half a sphere. The part against your tongue was flat. I never bashed it against my chicklets, and it was fun to play with. Ah well though.

My next tattoo is shaping up to be more chinese letters. My last tattoo was chinese letters as well, meaning "Survival Of The Fittest". I'm thinking about putting "Only The Strong Survive" on the opposite arm. Then again, who knows what I could come up with in the meantime, lol. Oh, and all my tattoos (all 6 currently) can be covered up by a simple T-Shirt.
