Those calls are annoying.

We've got this in the UK: http://www.fpsonline.org.uk/tpsR/html/default.asp

In the top left corner there are links to the email, fax and post ones. Pretty good! I used to get so many junk faxes wasting ink and paper, but I've had 0 since I signed up.

I still get the odd phone call... usually double glazing/carpets, both of which I don't need..

Our state has had their own "no call" list for about a year now. It works fairly well, although I wish that they would force political campaigns to be covered on that list. During the last couple of local elections, my voicemail had about 5 or 6 messages a day with recordings imploring me to vote for so and so because he is for the schools or vote against so and so because he supports abortion. It makes me wonder - are voters that easily swayed that they will choose a candidate based on a recorded telephone message?

I signed up for Colorado No Call List and I haven't gotten any telemarketing calls in a while. I do miss the fun I can have with them though Big grin

I do have to admit having some fun with them. We always used to get calls trying to sell us a timeshare in Branson, MO. I go by my middle name, but I list my phone under my first name...that way it was an immediate warning to me that anybody calling and asking for the name in the directory was a marketer. The guy asks me how I am, and I began speaking in a slow drawl that I was fine, ever since the bankruptcy. The guy says that's good, and I go on by saying that you really know who your true friends are when you got nothing in the world...them's the ones that sticks with you. He goes on and began his spiel about the free trip to Branson. I told him that it sounded great, but that I'd have to check with my parole officer, since I couldn't leave Kansas City without telling him. I went on to say that burglary wasn't THAT bad of a crime, hell, I didn't HURT anyone... The guy hung up.

Why you ask?

Well who else am I going to verbally abuse at the end of the day? My own family?  Big thumbs up

You bet. I am on the MN one, and will be on the Fed's one too.

Now for dealing with them when they call. Just ask them to hold for one minute, while you do what ever. Now I just leave the phone on the table, come back in 10-15 minutes, and if they are still there, I will talk with them. Only once has the guy stayed on for that long. And he just wanted to see if I would come back.

I got a friend who married a telemarketer... that's how they met... but she found him a nice job before they got married ! LOL

However, another friend who was about to marry a telemarketer (again that's how they met)... she stole his money and she's on the run!

Some are helpful, but they're a dying breed !

That's the worst thing you can do. Then they go right on to the next person.

A way to stop telemarketing in its tracks (in addition to the opt-out list) is to waste their time: pretend to be interested in their product & then change your mind. If their call volume drops considerably, their costs will rise & telemarketing will cease.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

In the end all such lists do is give the marketteers a list of phone numbers that exist and the names to match...
No need to buy them anymore, they get them for free...

Same with opt-out lists for spam, all they do is get you more spam.

Jwenting, in the UK they really do work. Like I said, I've had no faxes at all (apart from ones I want) since I signed up, I've also had a huge drop in the number of phone calls I don't want. Yay! Big thumbs up
