Suits And Men's Designer Wear

Sun Jun 15, 2003 3:25 pm

Hi all- I need some assistance with my writing.

My character is a CIA operative known to the rest of the world as a classy, intelligent, business owner of an international computer/telecomm business. I need suit attire.

So far, the only thing I can think of is Armani for the jacket. I need it to be expensive and classy, but not too expensive- he's not too into the super, extravagant shimering stuff- just a classy suit that successful businessmen would wear ($150+ would be great).

What about shoes? I've considdered Oxford and the common Deerstags, but this guy is masculine, buff, smart, and athletic. I don't want him wearing anything that doesn't look anything less than totally masculine.

Ties. Is there a well-known brand that makes very nice ties, or would you say that tie brand isn't of importance?

Any suggestions/websites would be greatly appreciated. *And, if anyone knows (from a reliable source) how fast a 2001 BMW 740iL goes from 0-60mph, that would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is an idea.

Instead of going with a world known tailor, have him get his suits from a fictious local tailor, who custom makes them.

For workout gear why don't you do something a little more "retro" then an expensive pair of workout shoes. I am thinking Converse "Chuck Taylor All Star high" tops.

Didn't Rush Limbaugh have a tie line he was plugging a couple of years back?

Oh, I also suggest Carhart Denim Jeans, Not the Duck Cloth pants or the carpenters pants for his jeans.

And if he is out in the rain, Helly-Hansen raingear.

Oh and one more thing.

Either Oakley or Ray-ban for the sunglasses, depending on what look you are going for.

Man I should be a fashion consultant.

For a jacket, I would recomend going retro again.

Suggest maybe he have an authentic WWII production United States Army Air Force Flight Jacket.

Either the A-1

Ahh too bad the prices aren't the same now as there where back then.

Or

The B-6 particularly this example that was manufactured by the Werber Corp during the switch from the light brown to the dark brown color.

The B-6 is sheepskin, so maybe for books when your hero is sking at Aspen or something.

So being a hero spy, have you decided on how to arm him yet?

I can make a few suggestions there too.

Well hello L-188! I should hire you as my fashion consultant! Thanks a lot- I definately agree with the bomber jacket (although I was having more problems with a suit jacket) and the jeans- will look into the shoes and everything else.

As for arming, I've given him a Beretta92 series (with silencer/supressor- what is the correct term? I've gotten mixed reviews), mostly out of personal preference. I do need a little help with a rifle- a higher caliber would be nice. I've been going with a Barrett .50cal, but need something a little more compact, but with some kick.

My email is FalconJet4820d@cox.net if this starts turning into too giant of a thread. If you'd like, I could send you exerpts as it develops. Thanks so much- I really appreciate your help.

Armani belongs in a more modern category (along with Boss), rather than "classy".

Maybe get a little inspiration from Pierce Brosnan?  Big grin
Brioni suits, shirts & ties from Turnbull & Asser, Church shoes...
Or perhaps Thomas Pink?

A Barretta?

That is Ok but a little too mainstream.

Umm, I would think a Wilson Custom .45 would be a better choice.

As far as a rifle, forget the Barrett, That thing weights about 50 pounds.

For long range scoping I would go with a Wildcat. 30-378 Weatherby. But I would probably put it a blueprinted Remington 700 action. Put a laminated wood target stock on it and go with a Carl Zeiss 3 by 10 or simular power scope.

As for shoes go...make sure they have tassels. Anyone I met who had tassel shoes has been a classy person and very nice.

L-188: Thanks so much for all your help! Unfortunately, I haven't had as much time as I'd like to go to the shooting range and talk guns with the people there, and despite my efforts to take a look on dealers' websites and everything, have come up short handed for weaponry. I'll check those out- I'll let you know what I think.

Gotta shower- just got home from TKD

UPSfueler: I like tassles, but I don't think they'd be the right choice for a CIA field operative... I want to make sure he doesn't turn into a business person, when he's actually an assassin!

Thanks
